Day 5, Trieste

Weather forecast in the Risnjak National Park for today: 90% chance of rain! What do we do? Well the beautiful city of Trieste is not far away, why not? The weather is supposed to be better over there and, even if it rains, there are things to do and see! So we left the hotel and headed in Italy! Another great day, and a perfect end for this tour!

Thank you Roberta, Ronald, Ebru, Murat, Karen, Daryl, Mark and William!!! It was a great pleasure riding and having fun with all of you, see you hopefully soon again!

The only cafè to be found in a range of many kilometres, in the small village of Jelovice. Our group doubled the population of the village!!!

any doubts we are in Italy? Here a pretty and old Fiat 500...

We made it!!!

Day 4, Pula and Rovinj

On our fourth riding day the route took us to Pula, the biggest town of the Istrian peninsula. This town is well-known for its 1st-century amphitheatre (also called arena) that is among the six largest Roman buildings of its kind and is one of the best preserved ancient amphitheatres. A 30 km easy ride took us then to Rovinj, maybe the most beautiful town of this region, where we had lunch and spent some nice time looking around! On the way back, nice twisty backroads took us to the nice little village of Gračišće for the last break of the ride. Well done folks!!!

Yes, it's a Vespa and yes, it's a Roman amphitheatre... but we are not in Italy!

Day 3, Cres and Krk

Today the weather was good and the sea calm, so we decided to anticipate the tour on Cres and Krk, the two biggest islands of Croatia as well as of the Adriatic sea! They fascinated us with nice roads, stunning landscapes and pretty little towns! Another good day!

This morning we left the hotel quite early, so there was time for an extra picture stop by the beach...  that almost made us lose the ferry!

Day 2, Poreč and the Limsky Canal

Today we crossed the Istria peninsula from East to West to reach the beautiful old town of Poreč where we could do a little bit of sightseeing and admire the Euphrasian Basilica, a UNESCO world heritage site with mosaics dating back to the 6th century! A short ride took us than to the Limsky canal, that back in roman times was the border between Italia and Dalmatia!

Day 1, the Caves of Postojna

I have to admit that the first day of this tour could have been better... speaking about weather!!! But the rain did not affect the mood of the group, we had a great day! Today we entered Slovenia and went to see the spectacular caves that are amongst the most visited in the world. They are the only caves in the world where you can enter by train... and also the only underground in the country!

First coffee break and first photo!

A great ride, great scenery, while visiting some of the world class historical sites like the Roman Colseum in Pula and the great limestone caves in Postonja Slovainia. I think the best part was having coffee and tea in small cafe's in the hospitable small villages along the route. Since I ride large America style touring bikes, the second best part was that I got to ride a Vespa winding through those small coastal roads. Great fun...Thank you Domenico for getting us there and back safely. "I'll be back!"
