Adventure Big Five

South Africa | Namibia | Botswana | Zimbabwe

From wild flowers to the deserts, from the wildlife paradise to one of the world‘s mightiest waterfalls in Zimbabwe - this motorcycle tour offers an incredible variety.

If you dream of Africa, what does your imagination show you? Do you see elephants showering in dust and hippos wading in shallow pools? Do you see a barren, moon-like desert landscape that miraculously covers itself with flowers each spring?

Or do you dream of a sea of giant sand dunes, stretching from horizon to horizon? Whatever your African dreams are, you are likely to see them on this motorcycle tour. Just listening the highlights will fill up most of this space: Cape Town, South Africa’s “Mother City”, one of the world’s most beautiful cities and home of the famous Chapman’s Peak Drive; the wildflower season in Northern Cape province; Fish River Canyon, second largest canyon in the world; and the Namib Desert, one of the driest places and one of the oldest ecosystems on earth.

At its heart lies the Sossusvlei, a place of exceptional beauty which words simply cannot describe; the town of Swakopmund, where German colonial heritage is visible at every corner; Windhoek, Namibia’s bustling yet relaxed capital city; the Kalahari Desert, a harsh land full of thorn trees and home to the San people, one of the world’s oldest cultures; the Okavango Delta, the world’s largest inland river delta, that transforms a part of the Kalahari into a paradise; Chobe National Park, one of the best game parks in Africa; and last but certainly not least - Victoria Falls, one of the mightiest waterfalls on earth and a sight to behold. So what’s your dream now? Maybe you should quit dreaming and come on this motorcycle tour!

Being an Edelweiss ”first timer“, I booked the tour for my 40th birthday present. Our team met on the first evening in Cape Town and from there the adventure began. Both challenging and exhilarating at times, the tour manages to expose you to much that Africa has to offer in terms of the terrain, the scenery, the animals, and – most importantly – the people. Being in Africa you would expect one or two unplanned events, but the outcome of these with the tour guides brings a smile to my face every time I think of them. Would I do it all again? Tomorrow if I had the chance.
