A stop on our second day at Santo Domingo de Silos, famous for their Gregorian chants, is really special. Along the road we see a lot of pilgrims walking, some with bicycles. We are climbing through the “Picos de Europa,” a spectacular mountain range with snow-capped peaks. An overnight stop in the fishing village of Llanes is like visiting a different world. Back through endless turns, green valleys and lonesome villages we come to Leon, the former capital of the old kingdom Leon.
Its ancient buildings are unique, and ideal scenery for a walk through the old city center. Hundreds of pilgrims are around Santiago de Compostela, and they come from all over the world! After a rest day in this beautiful city, we follow the coast down south; via Baiona we get to Portugal, where we spend two nights in the global city of Porto at the Douro river. A ride through Portugal’s back yard brings us back into Spain on good roads and with nearly no traffic. In the ancient city of Salamanca we spend our last night before heading back into Madrid. Interesting history combined with incredible scenery and wonderful motorcycle roads – a must for every biker!
