Crete Mountains Extreme 4CE2304
Carlos, Sean, Jeff and Nigel from Canada and family Gross from Germany Sonia, Roland, Anton und Richard are the team for our Crete adventure. After the welcome briefing and a great dinner, everybody is excited and ready to go. Richard 8 and Anton 11 are the youngest guests I ever had on an Edelweiss Tour....
Our first riding day with countless curves and beautiful scenery was short in distance, but intense. Swimming for lunch and good food, old windmills and sleeping villages. Our young passengers likes it! Even a flat tire, cause by a pencil could not hold us up.
Restday? Not for team Canada! We had an intense ride to the Eastern part of Crete and a lot of fun inkluding a swimm in the Lybian Sea. A great day!
We crossed the island again to the South on some narrow and twisty roads. Sometimes the road conditions were poor, but we had fun. Matala, our destination for tonight is a former Hippie colonie, where the people lived in caves at the beach, a very special place.
The longest and best riding day so far. Breathtaking scenery and thousands of curves. One really challenging single lane road over a pass with 30 switchbacks. What a ride! We also had a race track like mountain road and a perfect hotel to stay in Chania.
Second rest day and guess what. We rode over 250 km in the western part of Crete on beautiful roads, saw some nice beaches and the famous Samaria gorge. Crete at its best!
Our last riding day. Too bad! We went through the mountains again and had plenty of curves. We stopped at the only freshwater lake in Crete and visited the famous monastery of Arkadi. We all made it safe back to the hotel in Heraklion. It is time to say good bye. Thanks to a great group. Hope to see you again soon.
