Omaha Beach

The famous invasion beaches of WWII are just one of the many highlights of our special tour through Belgium and Northern France. Cathedrals, palaces, museums - and lots of good restaurants are also waiting for us!

Tag 1: Bastogne - Reims

10 beautiful black Harleys left the beautiful town of Bastogne this morning. The direction was the French-Belgian border and the battlefields of last centuries world wars. The first stop was the Orval abbey, before we continued to La Ferté, the northern end of the famous Maginot Line.

After a typical French lunch, we explored the battlefields around Verdun.
As Reims was our destination, we didn't hang around for too long - you can't have enough time for this beautiful city!

10 wunderschöne schwarze (was sonst) Harleys  ließen heute morgen Bastogne hinter sich.

Day 2: Reims to Gournay en Bray

Leaving the Battelfields behind us we ride through the vineyards of Champangne. Small Villages, narrow roads end endless hills with young grapes. Everywere are people working in their vinyards allready. We made a stop at Dom Perignon tomb.  A nice coffebreak in a local cafe give us power back for a long ride along the river Marne to our highlight of the Day  ,the Castle of Chantilly.

But another Castle will be our highlight today.............

Day 3: Gournay-en-Bray to Caen

After a wonderful evening and a very quiet night we had to leave our chateau for another great day of riding.

Our first stop was Rouen with its famous cathedral. Then we followed the river Seine all the way to Honfleur, the colorful harbor town - the perfect place for lunch.

Now we were ready to start exploring the WWII sites, starting with the wellknown Pegasus Bridge.

We got a first glimpse of Caen, before we arrived at our new home for the next two nights.

Tag 4: Rasttag Caen

Rest day - but as we are so close to all the famous beaches and sights of the Normandy coast, everybody was ready to ride!

We started out with the cannons at Longues-Sur-Mer and slowly made our way west to Sainte-Mer-Eglise. If you see the peaceful and beautiful towns and beaches, it's hard to imagine what happened here 78 years ago!

Day 5: Caen to Versailles

Sunny Sonday morning. We ride out of town towards Mont Ormel. The last sight of the WWII actions in Normandy. On This site also known as hill262 the last big battle happened and ist was probably the sign of victory to the allies. An honorfull memorial upon the hill overlooking the former battlefields. Thks to Paul we got so much Information in details out of his historical knowledge.

After that we ride to Camembert and Vimoutiers the capitals of the famous french cheese and had a nice coffebreak in a local bar. Right after Vimoutier there is exposed  one of the last german Tiger Tanks and we got again a lot of details fom paul. We had lunch in La ferte Vidame near the ruins of an old Castle, and finally got to Chartres to visit the highest  and most gothic Cathedral in Chartres.

Riding through endless alleys we finally got to our Hotel passing the Castle of Versailles, and got to know how traffic in Paris will be )
