Rome to Sicily….let’s go again !!
Let's go ...that's right! For the third time already customers chose for this great tour, and that's for a reason: great roads, great food and wine , a lot of history and hopefully some good weather! Today we prepared the bikes while Jon and Ryan were already on a guided city tour together with our Italy specialist Domenico! So time fie the welcome briefing, the motorcycle handover and the welcome dinner! Let's goooo
Good morning, lets get started! We left on time by a little rain with a worth to see raingearparade ;-)). Curvy mountainroads and mostly dry conditioins aswell as good coffee and lunchstops made the first ridingday just perfect.
So we start with fine weather, finally! In the morning there willbe a tour with our local guide Rosella through the ruins of antique Pompej. After lunchbreak we will be back for a loop ride to the famous amalficoast. So hold on till we post our first pictures. Ted and Franz
what a beautiful riding day we had today! Leaving Pompeji with a very pleasant tempereture and a sunny sky, we hit the highway 3 south towards the highlights of today: the famous area Campania where thenbjffalo mozarella cheese is coming from, and the archeological site of Paestum. Wandering around the big buffalo s and some of their young calfs, we sar down under the grapes in the beautiful garden to enjoy a good cappuccino and buy some local products. After the great picnic prepared by chef Franz we rode the rest of the day twisties towards the coast in Acquafredda where we had a refreshing berr and a great dinner in our fantastic hotel. super day !!
Today we ride all along the coastline of Calabria, it's said to be the poorest region in Italy. But our roads and the scenery isn't poor at all. It's a little bit windy let's see what is coming up . Well that was our plan, but strong wind and rainshowers, made us workinghard today. We had a nice lunchstop at " Da Maurizio" an Seafood restaurant right across the beach.
The theme of the day: crossing the street of Messina, Sicily we are coming... When we left Aqcquafredda for the last day on the Italian mainland, the weather forecast was not good. But as like many times , don't always trust the weather gods!! The entire daynwe had dey weather and even the sun came out from time to time. So with a small group we decided to ride an extra loop througj the mountains north of the Etna. And despite a major road closure, we had a great day of riding. So next two nights in the enchanting town if Taormina
Good morning today it's going to be challenging because yesterday the Etna erupted and we don't know yet if all the roads are open for today.
And the blue skies are back again! Waking up with a splendid view at the smoking Mount Etna , is what you wish for when you are visiting Sicily. Welll...if it stays like this , because mount Etna is still an active vulcano ! Today we will ride theough the mountainous areas feom east to west and will end at the borthern coast of Cefalu.
What a day! Fair weather, Norman castle, excellent riding from north to south, through the hills of the center Sicilys. Ted organized an excellent Picknick and finally we arrived in Agrigento and through The Valley of the temples, great Day, Thanks a lot!!
And suddenly it is there again: the final riding day! And again the Sicilian weathergods decided to give us a nice sunny and dry day. Everyone was pretty much in the relax mode and was overthinking the last week. A last highlight was the villa Romana with all it s beautiful mosaic floors. After that a great lunch at an aggriturismo restaurant and then on our way for the last part to Catania. We had a great time with you all! Good talks, a lot of fun, swordfish and pasta ! Hope tonse you all sometime, somewhere at a nice Edelweiss tour! Ted and Franz
