Rain or no rain - that's the question
Heading into Germany from Seefeld we experienced the rolling hills of Bavaria. Lakes like Walchensee, imbeded in lush countryside, would invite for longer stays. Kesselberg, originally a road used for racing had great combinations of curves. Getting to the Monestary of Ettal we learned about Baroque archtecture in Europe and Mallory continued testing Wiener Schnitzel. Castle Linderhof gave us a good impression of the life of King Ludwig. Getting around all the rain clouds we rode across Hahntennjoch back towards Seefeld
Heavy rain in the morning - so we decided for a late start. Choosing the "bad weather opption" was obviously a good idea, we did the whole loop without getting any rain! Leaving Seefeld, we headed for the Haiminger Sattele, a small passroad climbing directly from the River Inn Valley up the mountains, Kühtai, at a sealevel of approximately 6000 feet welcomed us with low temperatures and some low hanging clouds, which made it even more spectacular. We cruised down from there to explore some small roads and to make our way to Innsbruck. Markus showed us around in town, told us about the history and showed interesting places. And main thing - we stayed try all day long! In the evening we had a surprise for Klaus - the exclusiv shirt!
The weatherforecast was was pretty good and so we hurried to get to our first target of the day - the Zillertaler Höhenstrasse. After a bout one hour ride we start to climb a road, in most places smaller then somebodies driveway, all the way up above tree line. The spectacular road was leading along the mountainside offering magnificant views of the main range of the Alps. Schnitzel and Kaiserschmarrn (Emperor's Scrambled Pancake) gave a special touch at lunch. After descending from there we crossed the river Inn Valley and went to see Achensee, a wonderful lake imbeded in mountains. Close towards the end of the day we stoped at Tyrol Classic, a collection of classic cars. And again - no rain!
Today was one of those days where it was raining cats and dogs in the morning. According to the weather radar it was a good advice to start at 10:00 and as Timmelsjoch is still closed anyway, we had time to fool around. What the www. did no tell was that the Mountain Top Museum was closed as well! The positive aspect was, that, according to the tourguide, it was very pleasant to ride the road into the Oetztal without all the tourist driving there usually. On the way back we stopped to see how Oetzi, the iceman, and his antsisters lived about 5000 years ago. And finally we made it back to Seefeld without getting really wet, only some drizzle on the last five kilometers. We closed the nevertheless good riding day with a bootbeer!
Looking at the rain radar that red spot is not moving anywhere! As everybody denies to ride today we do something different - we will take a train and busride to Hall in Tirol as we have allready seen Innsbruck. The spectacular train ride through the walls of Martinswand took us to Innsbruck where we swapped transport and got on the bus to Hall. Visiting the mint and walking through town while listening to the interesting history gave us an impression of life in medivial times. And made us hungry. After an excellent lunchstop we headed back to Seefeld.
