Adventure North Cape ANC2402
The tour begins and we are all excited to see what the next few days will bring. Since the well-known Trollstiegen are unfortunately closed due to the danger of falling rocks, we look for a no less spectacular destination. The Atlantic Road immediately captivates us and the excellent lunch in a small fish restaurant on one of the small islands is the icing on the cake. After a relaxing drive in the afternoon through great coastal landscapes, we arrive at the end of a fjord in the coastal village of Sunndalsöra, where we spend the night in a theater converted into a hotel and review the impressions of the day.
The day starts spectacularly again today as we follow the Driva River in the continuation of the fjord. At the other end of the Driva River Canyon, an idyllic farm landscape with the typical colorful farmhouses, green meadows and yellow fields awaits us until we finally arrive in the mining town of Lökken Verk for lunch. The real goal today is to spend as much time as possible in Trondheim to experience the history and flair of the city, which we start right after the early arrival with a walk to the main attractions of the city and end in a small bar, which is also a library and stage for the nearby Jazz academy shortly before the excellent dinner in the hotel.
Today we went from Trondheim to Overhalla. The ferry in the morning took us away from colorful Trondheim into the quiet hinterland. Small roads and always along lonely fjords, rivers and lakes. Unfortunately, the weather gods had planned a rainy day today and so we got drenched from above from time to time. Nothing serious, but enough to make us put on our rain gear. The obligatory photo stops were short, but the lunch break in the dry and with delicious burgers lasted a little longer. Overhalla is a small village in the countryside and our hotel is in a very quiet location surrounded by greenery.
From Overhalla to Sandnessjœn, another great riding day. Small roads along the coast with breathtaking views. We also have to take the ferry three times today, not a long ferry ride, but still a constant interruption to our journey on the bike.
Another highlight on our schedule today. We will cross the Arctic Circle. Suddenly we find ourselves in a lunar landscape. 66 degrees north latitude, a great experience. Barren landscape with bare rock, somehow surreal, but still a great feeling. We are on the only possible overland route to cross the Arctic Circle in Norway. Further and further north...
Driving day #6. From the mainland in Norway over to the Lofoten Islands. First we had to take a 3.5 hour ferry ride. As it wasn't clear whether everyone would be able to get on one ferry, the first ones were already in the harbor at 7 a.m. to catch the "early" ferry to the Lofoten islands. After the crossing, we first went to the place with the shortest name: Å. A small idyllic fishing village, which is naturally flooded with tourists at weekends and during the vacation season. We then spent the rest of the day driving leisurely along the coast to Svolvær.
Driving day #7: from Svolvær to Harstad. We are still on the Lofoten Islands. A dream. You could stop around every bend and photograph everything. The impressions are simply overwhelming. And the best thing of all: the weather has been on our side for two days now. Bright blue skies and 20 to 25 degrees. It's simply a dream.
The journey continues towards Sweden. Shortly after leaving Harstad, we leave the main route E10 and turn onto a small side road along a fjord. Due to the morning calm, the surrounding mountains are reflected in the water. A peaceful start to the day and a quiet preparation for a visit to the War Museum in Narvik, which impressively highlights the various aspects of the WW2 war in the area. After an early lunch in a nearby restaurant, we head up Björnfjell and across the border into Sweden. Here a lake landscape with partly endless water surfaces awaits us until we get our first impression of the vastness of the country when crossing a plateau. The end of the day is then an excellent dinner in the fine restaurant of our accommodation. Happy and content, we sleep in the small huts to gather strength for tomorrow.
After a hearty breakfast, we leave Kiruna behind us and cross the endless forests to reach the Finnish border. While one group indulges in the culinary delights of a small wild animal butcher's shop shortly after reaching the border and tests reindeer and moose products, a smaller group deals with the infrastructure facilities of the nearby small town of Muonio to investigate the consequences of a small hoppala in the morning. The rest of the way to the Finnish municipality of Enontekiö we then cover quickly through the forest landscape to celebrate the end of the day with a boat beer, down-to-earth food and a swim in the amazingly warm lake.
We continue north and while we leave the dense forests and follow an idyllic river landscape, we approach the first destination of the day at a small silversmith's shop with an art studio and café. After we are in the area of the Sami, we of course do not miss a visit to the cultural history museum. After lunch, we try to be early at the hotel of the day in Lakselv, as some participants want to go on a short hike in the area and others want to plunge into the cool waters on the beach of Porsanger Fjord and explore the mudflats. Before dinner, some reindeer visit us in the garden around the hotel, so that we really feel like we have arrived in this natural landscape.
Today was a big day Because today it is supposed to go to the North Cape. The northernmost point that can be reached by motorcycle on the road. Accordingly, everyone was very excited. The weather not only looks good, no, fantastic sunshine at 20 degrees. Let's go. Along the Porosangerfjord, over 100 kilometers to the north. What a fantastic landscape! Running animals along the street again and again. The water is bluer than the sky or the other way around? We will then reach our absolute highlight - The North Cape! Mega goal achieved. Happy and also proud, we stand on the globe, make our souvenir pictures, buy souvenirs and simply enjoy the view. When do we have to say goodbye and make our way to Alta. Past lakes and rivers. already to end
The last day of ridng has dawned and at breakfast the experiences of the last 2 weeks are summed up and initially some already thought about the journeys home. But that's quickly forgotten after the first few kilometers on the bike, as the landscape immediately captivates everyone again. We spend the whole day along the fjords around the Lyngen Alps, which offer a spectacular scenery and indeed, after the weather luck of the past few days, we feel a few isolated drops on the motorcycle suit. After a short detour to the famous Arctic Cathedral in Tromsø, we reach our destination hotel in time, where we celebrate the successful tour with a last dinner together and exchange our impressions about the highlights of the past days. The tour guides Michaela, Thomas and Holger say thank you for the great experiences and hope to see you again soon.
