CAL2402 Alps and Lakes
Welcome to the first day of our tour Today is the starting signal for the tour, where we will meet our drivers for the first time, and I can tell you that we are looking forward to it!!!! But before that, we're doing our welcome briefing !!! Some of us went to Munich to explore the old town with Ralph and they enjoyed every minute of it.
Let's go day 2 and we're heading south - Austria, here we come!!! The start is in Erding and the destination for today will be Salzburg. And in between - let's put it this way: after leaving Erding far behind and approaching the Alps and Austria - you will say to yourself - this is the reason why I booked the tour - breathtaking roads + perfect asphalt and great weather - just perfect to start the tour!!!! Well what did we experience: after a short consultation in the morning we decided on the optional route with more bends and to say it in advance, the smiles every time we took off our helmets during the day showed that it was the right decision. First we went over the Suddelfells Pass and from there into and out of Austria a few times because we enjoyed the motorcycle playground at the border so much. In between all the stunning mountains we had lunch by the lake and one Andrew took the time to jump into the refreshing lake. After that it was time to move on as the traffic in Salzburg can be a challenge. Well, that was day 2 or driving day number 1. Let's see what we'll discover tomorrow Ralph and Axel over and out for the day
After our dinner with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozarts „eine kleine Nachtmusik“ we start good humored in our second riding day. The Weather is perfect for being on a motorcycle trip. Not to hot but warm enough that one would like to jump in one of the surrounding lakes. Our highlight is our visit of the eagles nest in bavaria where we enjoyed the awesome Panorama!
It is day 4 and we getting closer and closer to the Großglockner-Hochalpenstraße. But before there is the ride of today. We rolled out of Gmunden with sun in our faces and soon we took a right turn into the mountains where we faced a nice twisty road towards the Attersee. And in the moment where we could see the colorful lake for the first timw we stopped to enjoy the stunning view and took some pictures. After this and a little more riding we arrived at Bad Ischl where had a kind of cake tasting at Zauners. But then we had to move on becaus on one hand we had a suprise for everybody and on the other hand we had to get to Hallstatt - where you like to be not to late because it this place is quite famouse. After discovering the old village of Hallstatt we stopped for lunch at Ralphs Picknick place right on the lake side. What a suprise! Well and some of us saw the lake and went for a swimm. After refreshing and having a snack we went on over nice curvy roads to Kaprun where we stay for 2 days and hoping that the weather will be good for the rest day ride, because this will be the day of Großglockner. So see you tomorrow Ralph and Axel
Welcome to day 5 in Kaprun Today you could decide whether you wanted to relax and stay in the hotel, use the spa, go for a walk through the town or go for a ride. For those who opted to drive, we went to the Grossglockner High Alpine Road today. And in our case, we decided to drive, but we had a handicap!!! The weather was not as kind to us as the last few days. Rain and low-hanging clouds made us decide to stay in the hotel until 11:30 am. But then we set off after all. At least it was dry and we had hope that we might be able to see the Grossglockner after all. In the end, the road itself was the highlight. Perfect asphalt and the bends and hairpin bends up to the Edelweißspitz were great fun. We had lunch at the top and then drove on to the Franz Josef Glacier, but it was shrouded in clouds and there was nothing to see. So we turned around and enjoyed the road again. It may sound like a very short drive, but it was everything you need to have a great day. This road is brilliant and if the weather isn't too good, you also have advantages!!! There is almost nothing going on and you have the mountain to yourself. I'd say it was a great ride today and tomorrow, on our last day of riding, we head back to Erding, where it all began. See you tomorrow Ralph and Axel
Blue skies above us and sun on our faces - that's the weather that greeted us on the morning of our last day of driving. Once again we packed our bags and had a final briefing before setting off towards Erding. Today's route took first us to the Krimmel waterfalls and from there we went over the Gerlso Pass towards Zillertal - what a great road for the morning!!!! After passing through the valley of Zillertal, one of Austria's most famous ski resorts, we stopped for lunch at Lake Achensee. We fulfilled Andrew's daily swimming wish and spent enough time so that he could do his tour farewell swim in the lake. From there we crossed the border into Germany. It was a breathtaking last ride and the last kilometers through the Bavarian hinterland gave us enough time to remember all the unique places we had been to. To top off this tour, we surprised our group with a refreshing Boot Beer to ease the pain of handing back the motorcycle keys. A wonderful tour has come to an end and the conversations over the Boot Beer were already about the next tour - where we would like to go on the next one. Welike to thank you for the great tour and hope that we will share the roads again!!! Until then: Keep your rubber down See you on the next tour Ralph and Axel
