The Alps - how extreme can they get? (4AE2404)
The weather changed overnight, so we started our ride in cold and wet conditions. The coffee break in Oetz was heartwarming, but what really made us feel better were the clouds that started to break up around midday. The views from Gacher Blick were thoroughly enjoyed. In the afternoon, we rode up to Kaunertal Glacier (2.750 m) where the rain caught up with us again. Still, it was a spectacular first day!
Day two saw us leaving in the rain again but, thankfully, not for very long. Once we were in Italy, the rain stopped and the sun came out as you would expect. We conquered Passo dello Stevlio, had the must-try sausage by Bruno, tackled Passo di Gavia, and eventually arrived at our stunning hotel high above the Etsch Valley. What a spectacular riding day it was!
Day three held gorgeous sunshine and fantastic roads in store for us, just the way it should be on a tour like this. Several passes, endless twisties, balmy temperatures, virtually no traffic - probably the best day so far.
Today in the forecast: snow, plenty of snow. And cold air. Below the snow line, though, the roads were dry and grippy so we could enjoy the ride to the fullest.
