Pyrenees Tour PTY2402
Today we've started riding from Castelldefels in Barcelona with a beautiful view of to the mediterranean sea and jumped straight into twisty mountain roads on our way to the famous Abtei Santa Maria del Montserrat. We not only enjoyed the wonderfull weather but the views from the basilica and incredible limestone formation as well. Around noon we contiuned to the Parador de Cardona, a castle on top of a hill, there we had some more stunnings views, but sadly the cafe we wanted to visit to get lunch was not open. So we contiuned and found a really neat restaurant with quick and good service to gain some energy again. After we hopped back on our bikes we drove to the Museo de la Moto de Bassella, a small museum with a lot of old classic bikes. Some really popular, some other not so well known. From there it was just a small stretch to make it to our Hotel for the next two nights, Can Boix, a beautiful small resort located within a few small mountain ranges with a wonderful pool and a lot of vultures roaming the air.
What a amazing day! We jumped one our bikes and drove into the mountains. Curves , curves and more curves. Breathtaking views!
Hopped on the bikes in the morning like usual and started driving an amazing section of perfect road condition combined with a lot of switchbacks and fun turns. We had a "quick" shopping stop in Andorra, after that we contiuned over to france to enjoy a picnic of spanish specialties right by a wonderful lake. We contiuned towards our Hotel in Carcassonne with some more tight switchbacks over passes with incredible views until we reached our place for the night. For dinner we went inside the walls of the castle to enjoy a classic french meal.
On our second rest day the group split up in two. One half decided to take the bikes to the beach, which is about one hour away. It was a bit windy but worth it for the views and for the food that we found. The other half stayed within the city to explore the castle in the morning and in the afternoon go to a wineyard, to learn a little bit about the process on how the wine is made and of course to taste some of it. In the evening we all went to have some nice dinner before falling into our beds after another successful day.
After having a nutritious breakfast we went back on the bikes to drive from Carcassone back towards spain. The main attraction of today is the Gorges de Galamus an unbelivable ravine. Driving on the narrow winding roads is just an unforgettable experience. There we visited a small chapel built into the walls of the canyon. It was still really windy, but at least we stayed dry the entire time. After lunch we contiuned with some more passes and even more switchbacks and turns, until we arrived in Mollo. Our Hotel for the night.
