Honda Go -Lakes and Austrian Alps - the final one! - SPT 24057
The sky greets us this morning with a typical bavarian blue. We start the first stage full of anticipation for the upcoming tour and visit the island of Herrenchiemsee after a short photo stop in the beautiful town of Wasserburg. When visiting the magnificent castle of King Ludwig, we can't help but be amazed and ask ourselves how we can surpass what we have experienced. Of course, with typical Bavarian food in the monastery tavern of the island. Here, the local guide Holger gives a practical demonstration of the different ways to eat a white sausage and an introduction to alpine serenity. After we have taken the boat back to the mainland to the bikes, we enjoy the small roads along the northern edge of the Alps a little before we check into our hotel in Salzburg and end the evening in the oldest weissbeer brewery in the city.
Today, sightseeing is on the agenda and what better way to do that than from a motorcycle? Through a few isolated drops that can't scare our brave guests, we drive to a panoramic point over the city of Salzburg and visit an international salt mine in Hallein, because there is an underground crossing from Austria to Germany here. After the impressive tour, we get on the motorcycles in the best weather and ride up the Obersalzberg in neighboring Berchtesgaden. Here we enjoy exquisite food in a typical Bavarian restaurant with an impressive view of the mountains. Just a short ride back to our Salzburg hotel and we are ready for a city tour with the guide Ted, who shows us the nearby old town with its highlights in the most beautiful late summer weather. And how could it be otherwise, we end the evening again with the best local food in a traditional restaurant. One of our guests is also attending a classical Mozart concert at Mirabell Palace and will certainly have something nice to tell tomorrow at breakfast.
Today we leave Salzburg to explore the remote beauties of Austria. First we go through the heart of the Salzkammergut to Bad Ischl, where we take a short coffee break and explore the beautiful spa town. Afterwards we continue along the lake of the same name to one of the top attractions of Austria to Hallstatt. Here we enjoy the fish in various variations at lunch before we go on the mountain roads. Even the approach to the Nockalm road puts a smile on our faces and at the highest point of the toll road we stop again for a photo session. Due to the advanced day and falling temperatures, we immediately set off again to our beautiful, warm hotel on Lake Millstatt, where we end the evening with an excellent meal.
With a little hope that the Grossglockner high alpine road would open today, we took off at the enchanting area of the Lake Millstatt. Our first stop was the private Porsche museum in Gmünd. Very nice collection of old film material, engines and of course Porsche automobiles, it was a nice experience. After having a coffee in the colourful center of Gmund we were again disappointed because the Grossglockner closed again. This time not because of snow or fog, but the hard winds made it very dangerous to ride up there. But the parallel route over the Felbertauern is also very worthwhile to ride on, and so we did. Followed by a relaxed lunch we ended up in the great are of Kaprun
And there it is again: already the final riding day! Leaving the nice area and nice hotel in Kaprun, we made our way up north back to Erding where we started the Honda-Go tour! But not before we took a last glimpse of the wonderful area near Kaprun, a couple of nice lakes like the Piller see, where we stopped for some beautiful pictures. Unfortunately the weather gods decided to start the rain again, so our last part of the tour was a bit wet !. But everybody still in a great mood and after a hot shower we had the farewell ceremony lead by our Japanese co-guide Kizuki. He made again a very nice road movie which we showed during the dinner. Time to say goodbye.....thank you all great customers from Japan. We enjoyed very much your company during this week and hope we will meet you next year on a new Honda-Go tour!
