CAL2403 Alps and Lakes
We, Daisy, Gerhard and Ralph welcome our fellow riders from Shanghai to the Alps and Lakes tour and are looking forward to a great trip through the Bavarian hills and the Austrian mountains.
Once we are on our bikes we hit the road towards to Salzburg. On our way we visit beautiful Wasserburg and Prien on lake Chiem. On this day the weather was on our side so we could take the Ferry to Herrenchiemsee. A Palace built by King Ludwig II. Not only we enjoyed the lunch but also the beatiful Palace. On top of that we had dinner up in the castle of Salzburg.
A sunny morning welcomed our second riding day. We experienced the beautiful mountain roads in Austria and the impressive tour in the Saltmine of Salzburg. With a train we rode approximately 800 m deep in the mountain, where we saw one of the oldest saltmines in the world. The tour giude explained us how the salt was extracted throughout the history. Already 600 bc salt has been mined there. Riding with the train and riding the wooden slide was great fun too. On the wooden slide the mine workers went down to deeper levels of the mine. Since the Mine connects Austria with Germany there is even a boarder.
Leaving Gmunden and riding close to lake Traunsee was a highlight itself. Our first Fotostop was Castle Ort on lake Traunsee which is located on a small island. The castle was first mentioned in 909 A.D. and today it is very popular for wedding celebrations. On our daily program we also visited beautiful Hallstatt.
Knowing that there is already a lot of snow on top of the mountains we went up the Kitzsteinhorn to enjoy our restday. With gondolas and a chairlift we went up to 3029 m above sea level and had our first snowball fight this winter :-)).
On our last riding day we left mountainous Austria to hilly Bavaria. With some gingerbread hearts in our pockets we are back on track and passed several lakes and passes until we reached Germany. With a big smile on our face we reached our destination in Erding. Thank you fellow Riders for this awesome trip. See you again on a future tour 🍀
