Mediterranean Alps Extreme 4AS2403
Starting out from the beautiful coast of Cote D`Azur we climb up into the mountains. Today is the day of the canyons! Of course we ride along the Gorge du Verdon - probably the most famous Canyon in Europe. Besides several othe canyons especially the Gorge de Dalouis has impressed us with the narrow roads that are carved into the red rocks!
Shock: When we wake up it is really cold and raining cats and dogs! However we are super lucky: After we had finsihed breakfast it stopped raining and we left into a mystic athmosphere :-) Today we are staying in the french mountains: lots of pass roads provide great riding fun to us! What a beautiful day!
Today we go to Italy - via one of the highest pass roads in the Maritime Alps: Col de la Lombarde - 2350m altitude - spectacular! The Border is on top of the pass - just a small sign "Italie" But before we enjoy the famous "Col der Turini" which was part of the tour de France several times and it also often was a section for the Rallye Monte Carlo
We are "cruising" on backroads from the Piemonte into Liguria. After a stop in Genova to get Mark´s new Tyre mounted (The traffic in Genova was it´s own adventure!!) we arrive to Rapallo right next to the famous Castello sul Mare which had served as a fortification against Pirates during the 16th century. In the evening we found a nice Rock Bar in the old town!
Rain.....OK let´s start the day a bit later and go on a short ride to see Portofino which is just around the corner.
