At the blue Adriatic sea lies Croatia. A country with an old history and beautiful nature. During our 5 riding days we'll be seeing an ancient roman amphitheatre, visit some of the islands, discover huge caves, explore national parks and, off course, taste the great food and wines from this gorgeous country. Lisa, Crocker, Christina, Jack, Ally, Robert, Kathleen and Turner are ready to enjoy the adventure on our faithful scooters.
A first riding day can be extra exciting so we take it easy as we are heading for the caves of Postojna. With 24 kilometers it's the second longest cave system in the world. That is why a train(!) takes us through it! During millions of years a river has carved out the tunnels and huge columns have formed. On our way back we enjoy the Croatian inland.
Due to the predicted rain some decided to have a restday at the hotel. The others took great twisty roads towards Pazin Castle where we had coffee. After a picture stop at Limsky river Dale ( not created by a glacier so not a fjord, and not man made so not a channel) we arrived at the Eufrazijeva basilicum. Climbing to the top of the bell tower provides a great view over Poreč. Only the last 20 minutes on our way back we had a "little" rain. Another great day!
The weather forecast is predicting a lot off rain so some decided to take a rest day at the hotel. The others went for a ride into the inland and man wath a lovely ride! The view from the castle and the roads are excellent!
From all the 1137 islands Croatia has, we're going to visit 2 off them today: Krk and Cres. After riding along our beloved coastline, we're on the first ferry. Upon arrivel we're lucky to see a couple off eurasian griffons! Afternoon in Rijeka and then cold beers upon arrival back in the hotel
On this last riding day we'll be foing into the Risnjak National park. This park was opened in 1949 and is home to many flowers and animals. Autumn has arrived here and the colours of the leafes are stunningly beautiful. With the sun on our back we ride back to the hotel for the last time: what a great tour this was! So relaxed and impressive, highly recommendable!
