Alps and Lakes Bavaria & Austria CAL2501

After a warm welcome and personal introduction of the participants, we hold the informative “Edelweiss” welcome briefing at the Hotel Henry in Erding, where everything important, some highlights and the entire tour are presented. Of course, country-specific information is also included. After a good hour full of interesting content, the bikes are handed over. Personal experiences and many motorcycle stories are exchanged over dinner afterwards.
We set off in changeable weather - but decide to do without rain gear for the time being - and the weather is kind to us! We set off from the hotel's underground parking garage and via Dorfen and many picturesque villages, our first stop is at the viewpoint in Wasserburg am Inn. The over 1000-year-old town in the Inn bend shines with its colorful old town. Lake Chiemsee with Herrenchiemsee Castle is our next destination. There we enjoy delicious cappuccini right by the lake. And on we go to Waging am See, where Tim, Dirck, Dennis, Kevin and I (Tom TG) have a real Bavarian lunch. The Bavarian delicacies are served by a really nice waitress. We “ride” on and cross the border to Austria to the viewpoint at the “Kaiserbuche”. We enjoy the wonderful view of the valley and then reach Salzburg. We freshen up and stroll through Salzburg's old town. A cold drink in between is a must. But the highlight of the day is probably the “Mozart dinner”. The Salzburg delicacies are accompanied by Mozart music - simply fantastic. We walk back to the hotel with our heads full of unforgettable impressions. What a fantastic day's driving.
We still have the impressive Mozart dinner in our memories... Today we are looking at German history and visiting the Eagle's Nest on the Obersalzberg. We take the bus up and have breathtaking views from the top. Gerhard knows a lot about the history of the house. This is followed by another highlight, the Rossfeld-Panorama road with lots of bends and views. After so many visual delicacies, we need some refreshment. Tim, Dirck, Dennis and Kevin will definitely remember the homemade apple pie. Now begins the “curve rush” over the Postalmstraße, which is rewarded with a typical Austrian lunch. Through the fantastic lake district, the group reaches today's destination: the beautiful and cozy town of Gmunden on Lake Traunsee. The day ends with an excellent dinner on a pleasant summer evening right by the lake at the Hotel Schwan. For us as tour guides (Tom & Gerhard) there is only one thing left to say: We love it...
The guests, who have now become real friends, find it hard to leave beautiful Gmunden again. But the winding road with almost no traffic to the picturesque Attersee makes up for it in the first few kilometers. A photo stop right by the turquoise waters - we enjoy the peace and quiet and the views and “ride” on via Bad Ischl to Hallstatt am See. It has become quite warm and we can store our helmets and jackets with one of Tom's girlfriends ;-). We hike with relief and admire one of the most beautiful villages in Europe and also a Unesco World Heritage Site. Dirck is very interested in the many different buildings. We saddle up again and after a few minutes we get the surprise of the day. Gerhard has prepared a delicious Austrian picnic for us. More than refreshed, we could have taken a little nap by the lake, but there are still a few bends ahead of us before we reach the next hotel. We cross the Dientner Sattel and stop at a nice café. Dennis says: “The tour should really be called ”Alps and Strudels". We continue via Saalfelden and Zell am See to the MoHo Hotel Vötters in Kaprun. The Grossklockner High Alpine Road is getting closer. The tour guides are looking forward to it: Gerhard and Tom :-)
The Grossklocker High Alpine Road is one of the most beautiful and highest roads in the Alps and today we are conquering it. Today is a public holiday in Austria and a motorcycle festival is taking place nearby. The Grossklockner will not be ours alone today. We had already held the briefing the evening before. We decide to start early and climb the road from Kaprun to the Edelweiss peak. When we arrived at the top there was still fog, but only a little later we had bright sunshine and we were able to enjoy the mountain world to the full - a dream. From the Edelwess-Spitze we continue to the Franz-Josephs-Höhe with a view of the glacier and numerous information boards. We enjoy a cappuccino with apple strudel and continue on to Heiligenblut and down to Lienz. A wonderful old town awaits us. After leaving our helmets and jackets with one of Tom's girlfriends, we take a leisurely stroll through the town and enjoy ice cream and coffee. The bikes are saddled up again and we ride through mountains and bends up to the Felbertauern Tunnel in Mittersill. We arrive at Hotel Vötters in the early afternoon and still have time for a walk through Kaprun and Kevin, Dennis and Gerhard enjoy their time by the pool. What a beautiful day.
A wonderful day with glorious weather ☺️ Starting in Kaprun, we headed along gorgeously winding roads to our first stop at the Forellen Ranch restaurant on Lake Piller. There was a little surprise at Sudelfeld 🤣. After our last stop in Aying, we had a truly lovely farewell dinner in Erding. All in all, a #wonderful tour! See you next time 😉
We say good buy to our guests, which became friends - and to our bikes 🤣 Hope to see you again and thanx for these wonderful days Your Tourguides Gerhard and Tom
