Beautiful weather awaits us for our first riding day, which takes us to Wasserburg am Inn, to the Herreninsel in Lake Chiemsee and through the Chiemgau towards Reit im Winkl. We took the ferry to the Island in Bavarias biggest lake, and took a stroll through King Ludwig II. beautiful but unfinished gardens. After that some curvy roads in southern Bavaria, where we even had the opportunity to witnees one of the traditional dances in the area, they so call Schuhplattler. Your Tourguides: Arno und Tom
We start from Reit im Winkel and head south along beautifully winding Bavarian roads. We stop at Pillersee and enjoy “Icekoppii”, the Korean way to refine coffee, and relax briefly at the fish pond where sturgeon, trout and other fish frolic. We find another viewpoint and take the opportunity to take some fun pictures. Invigorated and focused, we continue the hunt for curves. Italian delicacies are served on the eastern shore of Lake Zell in Thumersbach. The journey continues to Saalfelden and from here you can see them in all their glory: The Alps. We quickly get our tickets for the high alpine road and off we go. Bends, hairpin bends and breathtaking views that never end - the Grossklockner High Alpine Road is a highlight in itself. Once at the top of the Edelweissspitze, the many impressions have to be processed. The descent over the “Kaiser-Franz-Josephs-Höhe” is just as spectacular. We are in the “flow” and arrive in Lienz at the Hotel Traube, where Francesca is already waiting for us. Today we have earned another delicious dinner. Grateful for a great day: tour guides Arno and Tom
Another ride, another sunny day. Today our route takes us across the border to Italy and into the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Dolomites. We have our Italian coffee (or iced coffee) at beautiful Lake Misurina, then we pass through Cortina D'Ampezzo, the busy construction site for the next Olympic Winter Games. Then the fun begins; we head up the twisties to Passo Falzarego and take the cable car up to Lagazuoi for a lunch with a 360-degree panorama. Then onwards on the northern half of the Sella Ronda, and then through South Tyrol's most beautiful villages towards Bolzano, where our hotel is right at the famous Waltherplatz in the city center. Another breathtaking riding day comes to an end.
Today we are facing a challenge - the “Passo dei Gavia” is a technical highlight. We start the engines in the center of Bolzano and sneak out of the traffic of the South Tyrolean capital towards the Passo dei Mendola. No traffic on the Mendola Pass - what a “biker's delight” we are back in the flow... and climb to the top of the pass and fortify ourselves with coffee and ice cream. We continue west towards Cles through endless apple orchards. The sky becomes grayer, but the weather spares us rain - we reach the highest point of the Gavia - our eyes light up and the view releases endorphins. We have some delicious pasta and after a short shower we drive off the pass towards today's destination, “Livigno”, at an altitude of over 1,800 m. We are treated to delicious food in an Asian restaurant and have a good laugh and discuss today's experiences.
After the downpour yesterday in the evening, Livigno greets us with a crystal clear morning for our short ride towards the queen of all European passes, Stelvio. We start off through the one way tunnel Munt la Schera into Switzerland. Our first and only swiss pass is Pass dal Fuorn, and we have a drink and some Gelato in the stunning medival town of Glurns. Then it is countless switchbacks up to Stelvio, with relatively sparse traffic for mid summer. Of course we can't miss a Hotdog from the legendary Bruno on top. Our way back to the hotel is a speedy ride (as much as possible in Switzerland) down Umbrail pass back to Livigno.
Today we will cross three borders on our way to the ski resort of Warth. First we ride into Switzerland, and take Bernina pass into the Engadin. Further via Flüela pass, with a short coffee stop, then towards Liechtenstein, our second border crossing. We pass by the beautiful castle and then on to Feldkirch, the austrian border town, to have some Bibimbap in the beatiful center of town. Last, but not least, via Furkajoch and Hochtannberg to our 4-star superior hotel next to the ski lift.
The weather is kind to us - after heavy rain in the morning, the clouds clear and we cruise through the Lech Valley from Warth to Weissenbach. We swing over the Gaichtpass and a coffee awaits us in the Tannheimer Tal. We reach Füssen and Schwangau via Grän and Pfronten and are amazed at the foot of Neuschwanstein, which looks as if it has been “painted” in the mountains. We take a few photos and our hunger drives us to the Asia Palace Restaurant. Asian delicacies are served. Refreshed and with full energy stores, we “ride” off again and drive via Pinswang Reutte to Stanzach, where we have “Afogato” and coffee in a restaurant. Now the curve hunting can begin... up to the Hahntennjoch - we conquer the pass summit over countless curves - we have fun and a friendly local takes a cool group photo. The descent leads via Imst to Telfs and then to today's destination “Das Hotel Eden” Arno is already waiting for us with a “Bootbeer”, which everyone gratefully accepts to quench their thirst in the rising temperatures. An all-round successful tour is now slowly coming to an end. No, not yet... Tomorrow we visit the BMW Days 2025 of BMW Motorrad in Garmisch...
Welcome to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. We take the train from Seefeld to Garmisch for the BMW Days 2025, where there are numerous exhibitors of accessories, spare parts, clothing - and of course travel and BMW motorcycle innovations. Edelweiss has invited us to a gala dinner in the large marquee and we celebrate, dance and laugh with Bavarian delicacies.
