Adriatic Rollercoaster (4SC2502)

We had a great first day and had a lot of fun with our bikes today. As soon as we left Klagenfurt in the morning, we headed straight for the Loibl Pass. This was the perfect start to our tour and gave us a taste of what to expect this week. We crossed the border into Slovenia, where we were greeted by stunning scenery and lots of roads that are perfect for motorcycles. Our destination for today was the small town of Motovun in Croatia, where we will be spending the next two nights.
Since we are already on the Adriatic coast, we naturally want to see as much of the sea as possible. That's why we visited two of Croatia's many islands today, Cres and Krk. To get to Cres, we drove directly to the ferry in the morning and then took a second ferry to the island of Krk. We stopped for lunch in the island's main town of the same name and couldn't have wished for a more beatiful spot right by the picturesque harbor. From there, we headed back to Motovun, where we will spend another night before continuing south along the coast tomorrow.
What a great day we've had. We leave Motovun and the Istrian peninsula in the morning and set off eastwards towards the coast on small side roads. After a short stretch on the highway, we drive along the coast towards Senj, where we stop for lunch right on the beach. Some of us take advantage of the perfect weather to check the temperature of the sea with our feet, and it is still pleasantly warm for this time of year. We then continue on the famous Jadranska Magistrale coastal road. We enjoy this perfect motorcycle route for almost 60 kilometers before turning back into the mountains towards our destination of Plitvice, where we will stay for two nights.
Since we only had a short drive planned for today, we took the opportunity to sleep in and didn't set off until around 10 a.m. Since our hotel is located close to the border, we naturally took the opportunity to explore another country on our tour, and so our plan for today was to drive over to Bosnia. Before that, we made a short detour to the abandoned Zeljava airfield, a real lost place that has been lying dormant since the collapse of Yugoslavia.
We only have two days of driving left, so it's time for us to leave Croatia and slowly make our way back north to Austria. Our destination today is Novo Mesto in Slovenia, and the route there has a lot to offer. In addition to great roads, there are also some historic buildings to discover today. First, we stop at an abandoned castle, which we explore extensively, and at lunchtime we stop at a 13th-century castle with a great view over Karlovac.
Unfortunately, this tour has gone by far too quickly, and today is already our last day of riding. We will spend most of the day in Slovenia before crossing the border back into Austria and heading towards Klagenfurt, where we started our tour six days ago. But at least there are still some great motorcycle routes on the agenda for today, so we will make the most of our motorcycles one last time. It was a great tour and a great group. I hope we'll see each other again soon on another tour. Daniel
