Balkan Adventure: Cross-Country Tour

Upon arrival in Belgrade, the guests decided to spend their first day exploring the city on their own. They strolled through the historic Kalemegdan Fortress with its wonderful views of the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers. They discovered the lively pedestrian zone of Knez Mihailova and enjoyed the atmosphere of cozy cafés and bustling streets. The city welcomed them with sunshine, hospitality, and the vibrant energy where rich history meets modern life. While the guests were discovering Belgrade on their own, Rubin the tour guide dedicated the day to carefully checking and preparing the motorcycles to ensure everything was ready for the first ride. In the evening, a welcome briefing was held, where the guide greeted the entire group and presented the tour plan. The day concluded with a wonderful dinner at the rooftop restaurant of the Heritage Hotel, offering unforgettable views over Belgrade by night.

After a short morning briefing, we set off and, with a bit of patience, freed ourselves from Belgrade’s heavy traffic. A quick stretch on the highway soon brought us to Serbia’s picturesque country roads, leading us all the way to the Bosnian border. Today’s ride also carried a deep historical significance – we visited the Genocide Memorial in Srebrenica, a place that reminds us of one of the darkest chapters in the region’s recent history. After this moving moment, we took a well-deserved break and enjoyed a tasty lunch to recharge for the remaining ride to Sarajevo. And the energy we had gathered was truly needed. After flowing through some beautiful and fast sweeping curves, we were surprised by a change of terrain – first a gravel road, then a forest track that suddenly turned into a real off-road adventure. Some riders embraced this challenge with big smiles, while others chose a slower, safer pace. Luckily, we met a shepherd who kindly confirmed the right way and once again demonstrated the famous Balkan hospitality. After a group photo at the end of the dirt section, we pushed on towards Sarajevo, as dark clouds were already gathering above us. Unfortunately, we couldn’t escape the rain, and the last 30 kilometers turned into a wet ride. All the more welcoming, then, was the warmth and comfort of our hotel Colors Inn, where well-deserved rest awaited us..

Today’s ride took us deep into the heart of the Balkans. Early in the morning, we left Kolašin and climbed the Tresnjevik mountain pass, enjoying narrow roads and breathtaking views. Crossing into Kosovo, we literally rode through the clouds, which gave the journey a unique, almost mystical atmosphere. Down in the valley, the sun welcomed us again, and over a tasty lunch we recharged our energy. In the afternoon, we continued into Albania, where the famous panoramic road SH22 awaited us – one of the country’s most stunning routes. Endless curves and dramatic mountain scenery eventually led us into the Valbona Valley. There, at a slower pace, we could fully enjoy Albanian hospitality and the warmth of the local hotel, our home for the night.

We woke up to a rainy morning, but by the time we had enjoyed a delicious breakfast, only wet roads remained. That was the perfect opportunity to head out onto the world-famous SH22, which led us toward the border of Kosovo. The “100-kilometer challenge of curves” was mastered by all participants with big smiles on their faces – an experience to be remembered for a long time. After a tasty Albanian lunch, we continued our journey and reached the Kosovar town of Prizren with plenty of time to spare. This gave us the chance to explore its historic streets, vibrant atmosphere, and unique blend of cultures – the perfect ending to today’s ride.

The morning in Prizren greeted us with slightly overcast skies, but that did not dampen our spirits. After a quick morning briefing, we set off, trying to escape the dark rain clouds rolling over the mountain ridges. And we succeeded – right during our ride along the stunning loop around Lake Mavrovo, in the heart of the national park of the same name. The combination of winding roads and dramatic mountain scenery provided our riders with an unforgettable experience. After this section, we enjoyed a short lunch break, which we took rather quickly, as the first drops of the storm cloud we had managed to outrun earlier caught up with us again. So, we continued at a brisk pace until we reached Ohrid, a city famous for its rich history and picturesque location by the lake. Upon arrival, we visited the impressive Church of St. Clement, where spiritual tradition blends with the serenity of the place. The evening was then dedicated to well-deserved relaxation – the hospitality of our hotel with its heated pool and delicious dinner was the perfect reward after a day full of experiences.

We woke up to a beautiful morning on the shores of Lake Ohrid and, after a tasty breakfast at the lovely Hotel Tino Sv. Stefan, we set off on our ride. The first few kilometers already promised an unforgettable day – a stunning scenic road along the lake led us to a viewpoint above the famous Bay of Bones, an archaeological museum built on the water. A few kilometers later, we turned into Galičica National Park, where the Livada Pass (1,568 m) awaited us. Descending from there, we reached Lake Prespa, where a relaxing coffee break on the beach gave us the energy we needed – not only for the fast kilometers through the town of Prilep, but especially for the next challenge: the off-road crossing of Prisad Pass (1,090 m). It was an amazing experience, which all participants mastered with big smiles and a sense of adventure. A well-deserved and delicious lunch in Veles followed, and from there it was just a pleasant ride into the Macedonian capital Skopje. Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, is a city where rich history and vibrant modern life come together. The old town, with its narrow alleys, bazaars, and oriental cafés, reflects the Ottoman heritage, while the modern center is dominated by monumental buildings and statues. Overlooking the city is the Kale Fortress, and nearby you can also find the birthplace of Mother Teresa. Skopje is a true crossroads of East and West, past and present – and the perfect place to end another remarkable day of our Balkan Adventure.

We started the day with beautiful sunshine and soon crossed the border from North Macedonia into Serbia. Our first stop was the peaceful and historically important Monastery of Venerable Prohor Pčinjski, a place known for its spiritual atmosphere and picturesque surroundings. From there, the ride continued along winding and entertaining roads through the scenic Serbian countryside. Around midday, we reached Vlasina Lake, where we enjoyed a delicious lunch at Restaurant Best and relaxed with stunning views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. With renewed energy, we continued our journey and enjoyed the final kilometers of the day, arriving in Niš, a city rich in history and hospitality.

The final riding day of our adventure was filled with peace, sunshine, and breathtaking views. We left Niš heading north to reach the mighty Danube River, one of Europe’s most iconic waterways. Our route took us to the famous Iron Gates, an awe-inspiring natural wonder that marks one of the most scenic parts of the Balkan region. Thanks to our guide’s local knowledge, we continued to a spectacular viewpoint overlooking the largest rock sculpture in Europe – the face of King Decebalus, carved high above the river. After a short stop for fuel, we enjoyed a delicious lunch with a stunning view of the Danube. Later in the afternoon, we rode back to vibrant Belgrade, where the group gathered one last time for a farewell dinner on the hotel’s rooftop restaurant. Surrounded by laughter, great food, and good friends, we reflected on what an unforgettable Balkan Adventure Tour it had been — and even started planning our next one!

Every ending is also a new beginning – and although the Balkan Adventure Tour has officially come to an end, the memories, experiences, and friendships we’ve built over the past days will stay with us for a long time. This unique region, full of history, contrasts, and warmth, reminded us once again why we love motorcycle travel – the freedom, the adventure, and the beauty of the moment. We’re already looking forward to more miles together, new challenges, and new stories waiting to be written on the road ahead.
