Thailand Extreme - 4TH2503

Firstly on the 108, then we take smaler country roads and it gets again steep and twisty towards the Doi Inthanon, Thailands highest mountain with 2.565m. But instead of going on the top we circumnavigate it in order to reach the Wachiratan waterfall. Beautiful and impressive and within a couple of minutes we are wet. Before on 1.600m height it wouldn't have been so nice but here on lower heights all okay. After lunch we are going into the mountains again and we get rain, we ride in slow motion, yes, roads in Thailand or Asia are different. The sun looks out again and after a nice coffeestop we tackle the last stretch back into Chiang Mai. We had countless curves on this tour, lots of fun and enjoyed Thai culture and cuisine. Thank you Walker, Steve, Jeff and Kai! and safe travels to home and holiday destinations afterwards. We hope to see you again on one or the other tour! Holger and Nak
If we had yesterday 1.000 curves then we will have today 4.000 curves. Wow, the whole day long. In between viewpoints and we visited the Kayan in their village down the river Pai. Of course a tourist attraction but the light version and we really enjoyed. After we tackled the remaining 2.000 curves. Huihuihui! Super!
First on faster connecting roads, then into the outback on some jungle roads, having lunch at an elephant camp...they were hungry like us:-) On steep interesting roads over a pass to the 1000 curves road to Pai, a roller-coaster on which you need all your senses: a great ride!!
We start out from our beautiful resort and just about 10km away thick black clouds above us, a little bit rain...shall we stop for putting the rain gear on..but a couple more km everything fine again. We are heading for the Golden Triangle, an experience in itself, especially what the Chinese built within 6 years on the other side of the Mekong on the Lao side, a skyscraper town for 300.000 people where nobody lives... After we climb up the mountains and after a checkpoint we ride right on the border to Myanmar. A supersteep twisty road right on the ridge, spectacular! Our lunch in a tea plantation, then through hill tribe villages in the mountains and after down to the valley in our resort at the Meakok river. Another beautiful day on our tour!
Today's first stretch on faster roads, since we have to cover about 310km to our destination at the Mekong. A relaxed flight over a mountain pass, then through more flat farmland area, lunch at the beautiful Phu Sang waterfall and after on twisty mountain roads...and then our highlight for today the Phu Chi Fa viewpoint. This is a ride up there, the first km steep and the 2nd km f____ steep :-) And Jeff and Steve want to hike up right on top, where we stand right on the Lao border and see the Mekong around 30 km away...what a great day!!!
Our restday round...huihui interesting roads! Some of us took the chance to visit some temples and the striding Buddha. And Steve wanted to tackle the remote roads close to Laos...wow, every curve interesting thru the jungle around us. Some broken parts as well, a lot to do for the Thai government during the next months. At our turnaround point to Nan a road closure due to a broken bridge, so we had to do it again. What a nice challenging ride!!
Our nice breakfast in our resort started beautifully:-) A couple of kilometers out of Chiang Kham we hit the 1148 road, an amazing rollercoaster thru the remote mountains towards Laos. Up and down, down and up, never ending combinations of curves in all variations. What a blast today!
Our first riding day! First stretch on a faster road and then taking off into the Kun Chae national park. Wow, beautiful, right in the jungle with a twisty road reaching a height of 1450m...more twisty roads and after through farmlands coming closer to our beautiful destination in the middle of nowhere đ
