4CI2504 - Atlantic Mountains Extreme
Our starting point was Tenerife. From there, we took the ferry over to La Gomera – a relaxed crossing that gave us little indication of what awaited us on the small island. As soon as the engines started, it was clear: this is where the real fun begins. The roads were in excellent condition, with endless curves, and all of this was set in a pleasantly mild climate. Sunshine, light winds and ever-changing scenery ensured that not a single minute was boring. We were particularly impressed by the area around Garajonay. La Gomera feels like a natural playground for motorcyclists – varied, impressive and full of views that you won't forget.
Our first day on La Gomera had been so captivating that we simply had to head out again the next morning. A short ride was on the agenda – more of a duty born of passion, so we could truly experience every hidden curve of this unique island. Around midday, the ferry took us back to Tenerife. Barely had we arrived when the next highlight awaited: Mount Teide. The route led us through black lava fields, bizarre rock formations, and a silence that felt almost unreal – motorcycling here felt like riding through another world. After this otherworldly stretch, we continued on to the Teno Mountains. The roads there are not for leisurely Sunday drivers: narrow, steep, and technically demanding. But that's precisely what makes them so enjoyable – every curve challenges you, every section rewards you with magnificent views and an intense feeling of freedom. At the end of the day, we glided back along the coast towards the hotel, accompanied by the warm light of the setting sun.
Our route began in the lush Orotava Valley. Terraced slopes, small villages, and a winding road accompanied us on our way up to the Corona Forestal. There, we took a short break at a viewpoint – coffee in hand, Teide in view, majestic as ever. Later that day, we reached Santa Cruz and prepared for the crossing to Gran Canaria. The drive there offered a taste of what awaited us the following day: flowing curves and plenty of driving fun. We spent the evening relaxing on the terrace of our hotel. With a cold beer, some typical tapas, and a sunset that bathed the sky in warm colors, the day ended as beautifully as it had begun.
Gran Canaria showed itself in its most impressive light today. First thing in the morning, we tackled the climb to Pico de las Nieves – the highest point on the island accessible by motorcycle. From there, our route took us across the island: down to the south, along the west coast, and finally back to the hotel. Hardly any other tour offers so many different landscapes in such a short distance. Dense forests, sandy dunes, deep ravines, and ever-changing perspectives made each leg an unforgettable experience. With its winding roads and constant variety, Gran Canaria has definitively won us over as motorcycle enthusiasts today.
The day began with a final look at Gran Canaria's winding roads as we headed north towards the port. After crossing to Tenerife, a special highlight awaited us: the famous northeast-southwest route – roughly 60 kilometers of exhilarating, rhythmic, and exhilarating driving, interrupted only by small, tranquil villages along the way. On the beach, with a drink in hand, we let the day wind down and truly realized that this journey had come to an end. Five intense days of driving across three islands – exhausted, happy, and grateful, we reflected on the experience over dinner. And as we reminisced about our adventures, the first ideas for our next trip began to take shape.
