Day 1: Northwest Sardinia – An Opening in Mediterranean Scenery The first riding day led the group from Olbia into Sardinia’s enchanting northwest. The coastline sparkled as they rode past the picturesque Isola Rossa, explored the majestic Capo Testa, and cruised through charming Palau, returning to Olbia. Sardinia shown in all its glory: turquoise waters, rolling hills, and Mediterranean charm. With radiant weather and joyful faces, it was a perfect start—an opener that proved Sardinia, with its coasts, curves, and Mediterranean atmosphere, is the perfect stage for this continuing adventure.
We started into day two and set out on an unforgettable motorcycle journey exploreing the northern hinterland of Sardinia, accompanied by bright sunshine and occasional stretches of gentle cloud cover that added a unique charm to the scenery. With pleasantly mild temperatures, the route led them through small, picturesque villages and along beautifully winding roads that were often very narrow and required full attention. A highlight of the trip was the visit to the stunning Basilica of Santissima Trinità di Saccargia, whose striking architecture and serene atmosphere left a lasting impression. By late afternoon, the group—guided safely by their experienced tour leaders—arrived back at Hotel L'Essenza in Olbia, tired but happy and full of unforgettable memories.
What a day in Sardinia! With perfect motorcycle weather, today's leg of the journey took us deep into the island's wild hinterland. We rode along winding roads, past impressive mountain landscapes and with endless views, up towards Monte Gennargentu – the heart of the Sardinian mountains. Perfect roads, dry asphalt, and brilliant sunshine made every curve a pleasure. Another highlight awaited us at Monte Ortobene. There, we took our group photo at the imposing statue of Christ, enjoying a magnificent panoramic view of the island – a moment that will stay for a while. It was there, that it became clear how close this group has become. The friendship that developed during the tour together last year makes this trip so much more than just a motorcycle tour – it's a reunion. We continued on to Orgosolo, where the famous murals and wall paintings left us in awe. Of course, a final ice cream stop among the artistic facades was a must – an Italian tradition, so to speak. ... In the evening we finally reached Santa Maria Navarrese. After a long and impressive day of touring, everyone arrived at the hotel satisfied and full of new memories. Sardinia once again demonstrated its perfect blend of riding pleasure, nature, and the Italian zest for life – exactly the kind of day you want to experience with good friends on two wheels.
Today's stage led over spectacularly winding roads from Santa Maria Navarrese to Barumini. The track offered breathtaking views as riders wound their way through the myriad switchbacks, enjoying the unique feeling of freedom on two wheels. Once in Barumini, the group visited the prehistoric sites of Su Nuraxi and Arrubio, a fascinating UNESCO World Heritage Site that deeply impressed with its thousands of years of history and impressive architecture. The atmosphere of these places brought the past to life and made the stop an unforgettable highlight of the trip. The return trip went smoothly for the whole group, even if a light rain set in, which gave the trip a very special, almost meditative atmosphere. On the way home, a delicious lunch was served, which gave new energy and offered the opportunity to review the impressions so far together. Finally, the group reached the Hotel Marina Torres in Santa Maria Navarrese, relaxed and satisfied, filled with the experiences of another unforgettable day on Sardinia's roads.
An exhilarating motorcycle ride took the group from Santa Maria Navarrese to Olbia via the legendary Genna Silana Pass alongside the breathtaking Gennargentu mountain range. Under beautiful weather conditions, the riders enjoyed spectacular views, fresh mountain air, and endless curves that make Sardinia a true paradise for motorcyclists. After crossing the pass, the group made a wonderful detour to the sea, where the sparkling water and peaceful coastal scenery created a special moment of relaxation. The journey then continued through wild mountain landscapes, deep gorges, and remote parts of the island, with every kilometer offering new and fascinating impressions that made the ride truly unforgettable. To make the return journey even more memorable, the route included an extended loop through the mountains of Sardinia before the group finally headed toward Olbia. Despite the long stage of the ride, everything went smoothly and comfortably, allowing all riders to reach the port in time for the ferry to Livorno. Before boarding the ferry, however, the group enjoyed an excellent dinner at the Marina in Olbia – the perfect ending to an extraordinary day filled with winding roads, stunning landscapes, and shared adventures across Sardinia.
Day 6 of the group motorcycle tour began with the arrival of the overnight ferry from Olbia to Livorno. After disembarking, the group continued their journey with a short visit to Pisa, where they admired the famous Leaning Tower and enjoyed the unique atmosphere of the historic city. The route then led through the beautiful Tuscan countryside, with its rolling hills, cypress-lined roads, and picturesque villages. The winding roads and authentic Italian scenery once again made this stage of the journey a memorable experience for all the riders. In the afternoon, the group finally arrived in the ancient city of Volterra and checked into Hotel San Lino, located in the historic center of town. The medieval alleys, historic walls, and unique atmosphere of this centuries-old city immediately captivated everyone. The evening came to a perfect close with an excellent dinner featuring regional specialties and fine drinks, while the group reflected on the experiences of the day together. Another unforgettable day full of culture, riding pleasure, and Italian charm had come to an end.
Today we set off on our motorcycles from Volterra towards Florence – not by the most direct route, of course, but via the beautiful town of San Gimignano. Tuscany showed itself in all its glory from the very beginning: a brilliant blue sky, pleasantly warm temperatures, and those endless, rolling hills that look as if they've been painted. The roads wind their way through small villages and past old stone houses, between cypress-lined avenues, olive groves, and golden fields – exactly that quintessential Tuscan feeling you always imagine. The stop in San Gimignano was a real highlight. Even from afar, you can see the town's famous medieval towers, which is why it's often called the "Manhattan of the Middle Ages." In the 13th century, over 70 family towers are said to have stood here – symbols of the families' wealth and power. Today, some of them still remain, giving the town its unique character. Strolling through the narrow streets, you quickly felt like you were taking a little trip back in time. The stop in San Gimignano was a real highlight. No visit to San Gimignano would be complete without an ice cream. The gelaterias there enjoy a legendary reputation far beyond Italy's borders – and rightly so. Creamy pistachio ice cream, fruity lemon sorbets, and unusual flavors make a break there perfect. It tastes twice as good in good weather. In the afternoon, our route took us onward to Florence. The day culminated at Piazzale Michelangelo. From up there, we had a fantastic view over all of Florence: the Arno River, the red roofs of the old town, and, of course, the imposing dome of the Duomo bathed in the warm evening light. After a long but wonderful day of driving, it was the perfect moment to simply stop and soak up this special atmosphere.
Today's rest day was dedicated to culture, history, and culinary delights. The morning offered ample time to explore Florence's impressive old town at a relaxed pace. The famous Ponte Vecchio, the city's oldest bridge, was particularly striking. With its characteristic small shops, now primarily home to goldsmiths and jewelers, it is one of Italy's most iconic landmarks. Originally, butcher shops occupied the bridge; it wasn't until the 16th century that the Medici family transformed it into a prestigious venue. Afterward, the walk led to the imposing Florence Cathedral with its world-famous dome by Filippo Brunelleschi. The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore dominates Florence's skyline like few other buildings and is considered a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture. The enormous dome was a technological marvel at the time of its construction and remains one of the largest masonry domes in the world. In the afternoon, an excursion to the rolling hills of the Chianti region—one of Italy's most renowned wine regions—was on the agenda. The destination was the historic Castello di Verrazzano, followed by a wine tasting. The winery is picturesquely situated among olive groves and vineyards and boasts a centuries-old history. The connection between the name Verrazzano and New York is particularly interesting: Giovanni da Verrazzano, an Italian navigator from Florence, was the first European to explore the shores of what is now New York Harbor in 1524. The famous Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, which connects Staten Island to Brooklyn, was later named in his honor. The Chianti region itself is known worldwide for its high-quality red wines, predominantly made from the Sangiovese grape variety. These wines are characterized by their fruity aromas, subtle spiciness, and harmonious balance of acidity and tannins. The hilly landscape between Florence and Siena offers ideal conditions for viticulture: warm days, cool nights, and calcareous soils contribute to elegant and expressive wines. Chianti bottles used to often bear the symbol of the black rooster ("Gallo Nero"), which is still the hallmark of Chianti Classico today. The day concluded perfectly with a shared dinner at Affè di Bacco. In a typical Tuscan atmosphere, regional specialties and the day's culinary experiences were savored once more – a relaxed and enjoyable end to a varied and relaxing day in Tuscany.
Day 9 of our group motorcycle tour started in beautiful Florence and led us through the scenic hills of Tuscany over the famous Passo della Consuma. The winding roads offered pure riding pleasure with breathtaking views of forests, small villages, and the rolling Tuscan countryside. Around lunchtime we arrived in the charming town of Greve in Chianti, where we enjoyed a relaxed lunch with regional specialties and authentic Italian hospitality. Between shiny motorcycles, great espresso, and plenty of conversations, the special feeling of freedom and friendship on two wheels was once again everywhere around us. In the afternoon, the tour continued along wonderful curvy roads through the heart of the Chianti region toward Monteriggioni. The small medieval fortress town was the perfect place for a relaxing coffee stop and some memorable photos in front of its impressive ancient walls. The day ended near Siena at the beautiful Certosa di Pontignano, a former monastery filled with history, peace, and authentic Tuscan atmosphere. After an unforgettable day of riding, we enjoyed a calm and relaxing evening in this truly unique setting.
Today began in a relaxed manner with a stroll through the historic heart of Siena. Even in the early morning, a special atmosphere pervaded the city: narrow medieval streets, warm stone facades, and the lively bustle of the small squares quickly made it clear why Siena is still considered one of the most beautiful cities in Tuscany. Our first stop was the famous Piazza del Campo. This shell-shaped square, where the traditional Palio di Siena horse race is held twice a year, has been the social center of the city since the Middle Ages. Enjoying a coffee in one of the small cafés, we soaked up the unique ambiance and let our gaze wander across the square as it slowly came to life. From there, the winding streets led us to the impressive Siena Cathedral. The cathedral is one of the most important Gothic churches in Italy. The black and white marble bands of the facade and the intricate floor mosaics inside, created over centuries by various artists, are particularly captivating. During the tour, you can feel the former wealth and pride of the medieval Republic of Siena, which flourished in competition with Florence. Back on the motorcycles, the real reason for the trip resumed: riding through the rolling hills of Tuscany. The winding roads led past cypress-lined avenues, vineyards, and golden fields. Sweeping views of the landscape opened up again and again, while the warm breeze and the hum of the engines made every stretch an experience. It is precisely this combination of freedom, nature, and movement that makes motorcycling here so special. Another destination for the day was the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore. Secluded in the heart of the Crete Senesi, this Benedictine abbey was founded in the 14th century and continues to impress with its tranquil setting and atmosphere. The monastery is particularly famous for its fresco cycles depicting the life of Saint Beth. In the late afternoon, the route finally took us to Bagno Vignoni. This small town has been known for its hot thermal springs since Roman times. The village's central square is particularly unusual, as it's not paved with cobblestones but rather features a large thermal pool. Even medieval pilgrims and travelers stopped here to relax in the healing springs. Finally, the last leg of our journey took us to Pienza, our destination for the day. This small Renaissance town is considered the "ideal city" of its time and was redesigned in the 15th century by Pope Pius II according to humanist principles. Perched high above the Val d'Orcia, the city walls offer breathtaking views across the vast Tuscan landscape. Thus, this day impressively combined history, culture, and the unparalleled pleasure of motorcycling through the Tuscan countryside – a day full of memorable experiences that will linger in our memories for a long time to come.
The last day of our multi-day motorcycle group tour began in beautiful Pienza and took us once again through some of the most impressive landscapes in central Italy. The roads wound through rolling hills and past endless fields before we reached the majestic Orvieto Cathedral. The impressive façade of the cathedral was another highlight of this trip. Then we passed the Civita di Bagnoregio, spectacularly located on a tufa rock and on to the quiet lakes of northern Lazio. The weather was kind to us almost throughout — only a short rain shower reminded us that even on the most beautiful trips not everything can always be planned. The closer we got to Rome, the denser the traffic became and the last few kilometers demanded full concentration from all drivers. But it is precisely these common challenges that make a motorcycle trip unforgettable in the end. When we finally reached our destination, contentment, fatigue and many special memories mixed together. At dinner together, new adventures were talked about again. Because even though this tour is now ending, one thing remains certain: the next roads together are already waiting somewhere behind the horizon.
Our last day takes us to Rome – and what a finale! We stroll down the Spanish Steps, are enchanted by the Trevi Fountain, and immerse ourselves in the past at the Colosseum. In between, we enjoy a delicious coffee and a relaxed lunch near the Colosseum. In the evening, we find ourselves in a charming side street in the city center, enjoy a final dinner, and let the tour come to a close with smiles all around. A magnificent ending! Everyone is happy that the tour went off without a hitch, and initial plans for further adventures on two wheels are already being made. Another chapter of this still-young motorcycle friendship among bikers is surely on the horizon… To be continued!
