2AP2601 Apulia by scooter
The first day begins with the arrival and a first acquaintance of all participants. We meet in a cozy atmosphere in the bar of our hotel and give a view of the route and highlights of the next few days. Subsequently, Italian traffic and driving with scooters are explained in a safety briefing. Finally, the Vespas are handed over and the special features in the operation are discussed. The day ends with a very good dinner and some of us make a little trip to the old town where celebrations for the feast day of Saint Nicholas are taking place and we Are surprised with a spectacular firework . Tomorrow the tour finally starts, we are already looking forward to it.
Today we go to the famous cave town of Matera. But before we can start, we have a little surprise and first have to reorganize ourselves. MA and Maria first get into the van and follow the group to the Castell del Monte together with Holger on four wheels. The castle is then the first highlight of the day and we marvel at the magnificent building. Afterwards, our paths separate and the Vespas continue on the regular route. After some wonderful impressions of the landscape, the Vespa team stops in Gravina for lunch and finally reaches the beautiful cave town where we meet again. Before dinner we discuss the plans for the next day and take a little stroll through the city. Happy and satisfied, we fall into our pillows and decide on the plans for tomorrow.
After we were able to get a first impression of this wonderful city yesterday, we start the day with a little tour of the city and some smaller shopping. Finally, some of us start a little discovery tour in the area on the scooters. We are inspired by the mystical atmosphere of the ghost town in Crato, while the rest of us gather further impressions in Matera. Towards evening we all meet again and give ourselves to the pleasures of Italian cuisine. Tomorrow we will continue south and we are already looking forward to the further experiences and sights in Apulia.
Heute ziehen wir weiter und wechseln unseren Standort von Matera nach Lecce. Zunächst geht es durch die Berge und Hügel über viele kurvige geschwungene Straßen hinunter ans Meer. Schließlich kommen wir nach Taranto wo wir nach dem Mittagessen in den Genuss einer Führung durch die historischen Befestigungsanlagen einer aktiven Militärbasis kommen. Das eigentliche Highlight des Tages folgt jedoch während der zweiten Pause am Meer. Wir stoppen bei einer herausragenden Gelateria direkt an einem kleinen Hafen. In dieser idyllischen Umgebung essen wir unser italienisches Eis und setzen unseren Weg zum Hotel für die nächsten zwei Nächte fort. Bei einem gemeinsamen Abendessen besprechen wir die Optionen für den morgigen Ruhetag und sinken voller Vorfreude in unsere Kissen.
Heute ist ein weiterer Ruhetag den wir um Lecce herum verbringen. Natürlich steigen wir wieder auf unsere Vespas und erkunden die nähere Umgebung. Zunächst geht es in die Altstadt von Gallipoli wo wir etwas herum schlendern um dann zügig zu einer kleinen Trattoria an der Westküste aufzubrechen. Nachdem wir uns gestärkt haben und einige nette Fotos mit unserer Tour Guide Vespa gemacht haben geht es dann weiter zu den spektakulären Felsen von Alumini. Nachdem wir die Runde am frühen Nachmittag abgeschlossen haben erkunden wir in kleineren Gruppen noch die Altstadt von Lecce wo wir uns dann auch zum Abendessen wieder treffen. Nachdem wir Paul und Viv für ihre Teilnahme an der zehnten Tour von Edelweiß geehrt haben machen wir uns noch einmal auf die Suche nach einem Eis und kehren dann in froher Erwartung auf den morgigen Tag in unser Hotel zurück.
It's the last day of the tour and we're back on our way to Bari. After leaving the urban surroundings of Lecce, we first go through the Val de Itra in the direction of Alberobello. Here we spend some time to marvel at the white painted old stone houses, the so-called trulli and let ourselves be drawn into its band by the special cityscape. Finally we reach our starting hotel in the city of Bari where we celebrate the successful tour together with a boat beer and make our preparations for the departure. During a last dinner together, we review the past few days and are already looking forward to the next tours.
