Edelweiss team ride 2026
The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and it’s still pleasantly cool on the Mieming Plateau. After our short mountain hike yesterday, we’re swapping our hiking boots for motorcycle boots today. But before we set off, our chief mechanic, Christof, outlines the tasks for our garage team…and there’s quite a lot to do. After two briefings from our tour guide colleagues Ernst and Tom, we hit the road. The theme of the day is a change of scenery. Today we’ll experience the diversity of the Tyrolean mountains from different perspectives; we’ll need to cover some distance, but we’ll definitely make time for a panoramic road or two ;-) We’ll use our lunch break—and later, dinner as well—to strengthen our teamwork. In the evening, we’ll arrive at our small hotel at the foot of the Hohe Tauern National Park. Our home for the next two nights.
When we stay in the same hotel for 2 days, it means it’s supposed to be a rest day, but that’s not really what you can call today. We started with a very interesting explanation about the tasks of our Tour Management Team, who are responsible for the motorcycle planning, tour guide planning, and many other areas. After that we set off and made our way towards the Zoncolan Pass. The pass is known as one of the hardest passes in the Alps on the professional cycling calendar. Luckily we went up by motorcycle and were able to enjoy a coffee with a view at the top. Then, after a few more corners, we had our lunch at another mega beautiful location. This was followed by a presentation from the accounting department about their area of responsibility, where of course there is much more behind it than we notice in our daily work. After that, many more corners under the very warm sun. A very nice 2nd day of our team trip!
Unfortunately, today is already the third—and thus the last—day of our office outing. But at least we still have 290 exciting kilometers ahead of us before we park our bikes back in the garage in Mieming and everyday life resumes for all of us. Refreshed from breakfast, we hop on our motorcycles after the daily briefing and leave the small town of Irschen, heading west. Shortly after Lienz, we leave the main road and follow the Defreggen Valley toward the Italian border. Fantastic winding roads with little traffic take us to today’s first highlight, the Staller Sattel. There, the road is so narrow that traffic is restricted to one direction at a time. We’re lucky enough to line up at the very front of the convoy, allowing us to really enjoy the many curves. Afterward, we’ve earned a break and stop at Lake Antholz, where Dominik gives us a fascinating insight into the daily life of a tour guide in a great presentation. After our stop at Lake Antholz, we continue westward and, after an hour, stop for lunch at a small but charming Italian restaurant for a delicious meal. Just the thing for today’s high temperatures. Since the weather forecast calls for rain in the late afternoon, we decide to skip the planned detour to the Penser Joch and instead head straight home to Mieming via the Brenner Pass. By early afternoon, we were back in Mieming, where we had started on With everyone´s help bikes were washed in no time and are ready to go on the next adventure. Our trip ended far too quickly, but we had a great time and are already looking forward to doing it again next year.
