TWIST AND SHOUT! Pyrenees – Where Motorcyclists Lose Themselves in the Curves If there is a heaven for motorcyclists, then the Pyrenees must surely be part of it. Curves everywhere you look. Small roads, huge landscapes, and those moments when you find yourself thinking: Why haven’t I ridden this road before? You could spend weeks in the Pyrenees and still discover that you have only scratched the surface. There are simply too many roads to ride. And that is exactly what makes this mountain range so special for us motorcyclists. For our Pyrenees Extreme Tour, we didn’t just put together any old route. We picked out the very best roads we could find – narrow, winding, sometimes challenging, and always incredibly rewarding. Roads where the speedometer quickly becomes irrelevant because the next corner is far more interesting. For seven days, we ride from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic coast and back again. The first three days take us along the Spanish side of the Pyrenees before we cross into France for the return journey. On the final day, we are back in Spain – or more precisely, Catalonia – because we have to make our way back to Castelldefels, our starting point just outside Barcelona. And throughout the entire tour, one thing is clearly at the heart of it all: Motorcycling. Corner after corner. Twist the throttle. Brake. Turn in. Accelerate out. And there’s the next corner already. Then do it all over again. What more could you ask for? Well… good food, of course. And there is plenty of that too. Tapas and paella on the Spanish side, followed by escargots and fromage de chèvre in France. Add a good glass of wine, and you quickly realize that after a long day in the saddle, you can work up quite an appetite. We deliberately choose small villages away from the major tourist crowds for our overnight stops. The exception is Pamplona, where we stay for two nights. Technically, the day in between is a rest day. Technically. Because anyone who has ever ridden in the Pyrenees knows that “rest day” can be a very flexible term. There are simply too many roads waiting to be explored and far too many corners that are impossible to ignore. So, once again, we get back on the bikes and make the most of what the Pyrenees have to offer. Hour after hour. Mile after mile. And most of the time, hardly another vehicle in sight. That combination is what makes the Pyrenees so special for motorcyclists: spectacular scenery, challenging roads, little traffic and an almost endless supply of corners. After seven days, maybe your muscles will finally tell you that enough is enough. But your head will be saying something completely different: Just one more corner. Just one. And that’s exactly why we’ll be back.
