Good by Vienna

Day01 - Lake Neusiedl and the Leitha Mountains

Our first day in Vienna takes us east, near the Hungarian border. We ride across the Leitha Mountains to Austria's only steppe lake and visit the Neusiedlersee National Park of the same name. Our lunch awaits us in the village of Neusiedl on the Pier above the lake and in the afternoon we follow the Leitha Mountains to Esterhazy Castle in Eisenstadt. Finally we drive back to Vienna over the Leitha Mountains and through the picturesque fields and visit the city center for dinner.

The first view of Lake Neusiedl from the east of the Leithaberge
Robert was looking forward to hell since the welcome briefing
We have reached the Neusiedlersee National Park and can see the beginning of the Eurasian steppe from the observation tower in hell.
right next to the scooters is one of the salt lakes that are a symbol of the national park
just a few minutes away is our very traditional juice stop in one of the most beautiful taverns in the area
We leave hell and the national park and drive back to Nieusiedl am See to the Mole West, well-known among sailors, where we can enjoy our lunch with a lake view.
After we were able to enjoy the wine and orchards and the view of the lake along the Leithaberge in the afternoon, we reach our afternoon coffee right in front of Esterhazy Castle.

Day 02 - The alpine side of Vienna

On our second day we visit the first 2000 m peak in front of Vienna, the Schneeberg, which also supplies Vienna with its world-famous drinking water. Our round trip takes us through the vineyards and the southern part of the Vienna Woods and for lunch we take the cog railway to the top of the Schneeberg.

After enjoying the view of the Vienna Wine Route, we stop for a coffee in the historic industrial town of Berndorf.
Our highlight of the day is the Schneeberg...
...and there is our cog railway.
a short stop to get some fresh air halfway through the journey...
and we can enjoy the alpine landscape and the wonderful views again.
In the afternoon, head into the beautiful Vienna Woods and down Vienna's most famous motorcycle route.
In the middle of this wonderfully green landscape, we visit Heiligenkreuz Abbey...
...admire the impressive buildings...
and enjoy the delicious monastery slices with your coffee.
the last stop of the day takes us to Liechtenstein Castle, which gave its name to the family and the Principality of Liechtenstein.
On our way to dinner, we visit the beautiful gardens of the Belvedere...
...the former summer palace of Prince Eugen, whom we met briefly today

Day03 - The City of Vienna

One day for Vienna but even that will not be enough if you want to see all the highlights of this city. We do our best and start the day with a visit to the Emperor's Gardens at Schönbrunn Palace, then we drive to the Wiener Höhenstraße, visit Grinzing and the Kahlenberg, then we take the roller ferry across the Danube and to the Prater for lunch. Afterwards we visit a curiosity of the Prater, the Wiener Riesenrad and take a lap around the Wiener Ringstraße before we go to the traditional Heurigen for dinner.

---

Good morning Vienna
The view of the city from Schönbrunner Berg and the beautiful castle of the same name.
and our second coffee is already waiting in the Gloriette behind us.
Here we are in Grinzing and Dot is fascinated by the beautiful old houses.
After the curves on the Höhenstraße we can enjoy the view over the city from the Kahlenberg and linger for a coffee at the place where Franz Grillparzer liked to write his poems.
Down a few curves again we reach the small roller ferry in the Donauauen, which takes us to the other side.
Dot and Bill leave the ship via the floating jetty
Lunch in the middle of the Prater at the famous Schweizerhaus
After a traditional stilt in the Schweizerhaus, we visit the Vienna Prater. We visit the microstate in Vienna "Kugelmugel", unfortunately the border guards are not there today and we can't get a passport stamp...
...but a perfect photo with the Ferris wheel on the Kaiserwiese.
Dot loves the beautiful floral decorations in the city's gardens.
On our tour of the Ringstrasse, we make a stop at Heldenplatz to admire the Hofburg and the imposing equestrian statues on the square.
Prince Eugen asked if he could take a picture with us, so we sat down at his feet
After a day in Vienna, a visit to a wine tavern should not be missed and we take the train to Gumpoldskirchen, Cheers

Day04 - The Vienna Woods and the blue Danube

Today we leave the city and enter one of the most beautiful areas around Vienna. In the morning we enjoy the small winding roads through the green Vienna Woods and a coffee at the Hegerberg in the refuge. Afterwards we drive to the Danube, past the Göttweig Abbey and reach the gateway to the Wachau in Krems, where we have lunch in the old town. The afternoon takes us through the Danube floodplain and the countless vineyards, back to the Vienna Woods where we round off the day with a coffee and many beautiful curves.

---

The Vienna Woods
Coffee at the Hegerberg
Robert looking forward to more beautiful roads
On our way to the Danube we stop for photos at Walpersdorf Castle
and a smal walk throug the castle...
...and its gardens.
A little further we have a fantastic view of Göttweig Abbey
and again a little further we reach our lunch stop and highlight of the day Krems, the gateway to the Wachau
We take a walk through the old town, enjoy the ambience of the centuries-old buildings and use the opportunity to buy regional souvenirs.
And enjoy our lunch in front of the Linzertor before we return home through the Vienna Woods

Day05 - The World of the 1000 hills and the High Wall

Unfortunately, it's that time again and our last day on this tour begins. We were supposed to make our first photo stop of the day at Laxenburg Castle, but because Dot wanted it and it's on the way, we visit the last Biedermeier cemetery in the world and a famous musician instead. Then it goes through the fields in the Buckligewelt, to Forchtenstein Castle and dreamlike small roads over never-ending hills. In the afternoon we visit the Hohe Wand and end the tour of the Vienna Wine Route with a refreshing juice in a traditional tavern.

---

St. Marx Cemetery the last Biedermeier cemetery in the world and today the Museum Cemetery of the City of Vienna
It's a nice place for a little walking tour and the interesting inscriptions on the graves testify to what a cultural melting pot Vienna has always been.
And here is also the place where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was buried for the first time before he was moved to a grave of honor at the Vienna Central Cemetery.
A few beautiful streets and views later we reach the medieval Forchtenstein Castle for coffee.
after a short walk and a coffee we ride on...
...and we reach the gate into the Buckligewelt
a short stop at Castle Thernberg...
...what Rpbert liked a lot
our next highlight the High Wall
known for it's beautiful view...
...and the great hair pins
The final highlight of this tour is the Vienna Wine Route
and a stop at the Buschenschank right at the beginning of the street
