Highlights
Join us riding the roof of the world!
The Himalayas, earth’s highest mountains, the roof of the world, are the destination of this outstanding adventure tour. Tropical northern Thailand and Laos serve as our gateway to the wild south-east of China and the mountains of Yunnan. The paradise of Shangri-La and the world-famous Tiger Leaping Gorge are just two of the highlights on our way up to Tibet.
Slowly we gain elevation and cross mountain passes higher than any pass in the Alps or Rockies. We see countless Tibetan monasteries and groups of pilgrims on their way to the holiest sites of Tibetan Buddhism. The scenery is otherworldly and stunningly beautiful. We’re riding on roads that not many foreigners have ridden before.
The air gets thinner and thinner, we reach the Tibetan Plateau and follow the Friendship Highway towards Nepal. Destination and literally the highlight of this tour: Everest base camp, 17,500 ft above sea level. Be prepared to have your breath taken away, the views from Rongbuk Monastery simply can’t be described.
After the base camp we head north again, to Lhasa. On the way is Nam Co, the world’s highest-located lake, where yak herds graze and nomad families huddle around their yurts. This is nothing short of stunning, but of course by now we just can’t wait to finally reach Lhasa, Tibet’s legendary capital. Riding your bike past the famous Potala Palace is something you will never, ever forget. Just like the Dalai Lama says: travel to Tibet and then go and tell the world about it. There is nothing to add.
