The Ultimate Alps Tour

There are 7 days in a week, Someday is not one of them” – and yesterday, that truth became reality. After 11 incredible days and 1,663 kilometers on two wheels, our Edelweiss motorcycle journey through the Austrian Alps, Italian Alps and the Dolomites has come to an end. And what a journey it was. We rode some of the most spectacular motorcycle roads in the world – climbing through seemingly endless switchbacks, sweeping Alpine curves and breathtaking mountain passes, including the legendary Stelvio Pass and Furka Pass. We ferried across beautiful Lake Lucerne, traveled along Lake Garda, visited Zermatt, and stood in the shadow of one of the most iconic mountains in the world – the Matterhorn. There were moments during this trip when I found myself simply looking around and thinking, I can’t believe I’m actually here, doing this. For years, a motorcycle trip through the Alps was one of those things filed away under “Someday.” Someday I’ll ride Stelvio. Someday I’ll ride through the Dolomites. Someday I’ll see the Matterhorn. Someday I’ll ride those incredible Alpine roads I’ve seen in photographs and videos for years. Well… Someday finally arrived. And it exceeded everything I imagined. The photographs will capture the mountains, the motorcycles and some of the incredible scenery – but they can’t completely capture the experience of actually being there. The sound of the motorcycles echoing through the mountains. The anticipation of another Alpine pass ahead. The switchbacks. The views. The laughter and camaraderie at the end of a long day’s ride. And the realization that you’re experiencing something you’ll remember for the rest of your life. At this point in life, I’ve been fortunate to have had some extraordinary experiences and adventures. This one goes very near the top of the list. 11 days. 1,663 kilometers. Austria. Italy. The Dolomites. Stelvio Pass. Furka Pass. Lake Lucerne. Lake Garda. Zermatt. The Matterhorn. But the numbers and names only tell part of the story. This wasn’t just a motorcycle trip – it was the moment a long-held dream stopped being something imagined and became something lived. Some journeys are planned. Others are postponed. And a few… are finally claimed. This was one of those.

Everything was perfect about the tour, the hotels and their locations were exceptional, the food at the hotels was delicious, healthy, fresh and plentiful, the staff at the hotels was always friendly and helpful and provided whatever requested - a special kudos from me to the owner/manager of the Bergland for turning on the heat in our room that first night when everyone, including my husband, thought I was crazy...BUT HE DID. I'm still very grateful to him...and he was there smiling and accommodating when we returned for our last night! It was a very warm and welcoming touch. The route itself was so exciting, beautiful, challenging and exhilarating that the days, and trip, were over before we knew it. The points of interest were amazing and very well explained with time taken to enjoy them. We have to tell you - in our opinion, your most prized asset is Axel. He is everywhere, taking care of everyone, all the while smiling and happy and always had time to answer any questions and be with us at meals and becoming a part of the group. He didn't just disappear. He wasn't just a tour guide, he was our friend. He has the patience of Job, dealing with the various personalities of the group but he took it all in stride. I never saw him angry or refuse anyone any request. The man is a jewel. Edelweiss and Axel are the perfect fit! I can see why he's so happy and successful - your part of the world is HEAVEN ON EARTH! We cannot really comment on Angela since she had to leave our group so early on. But while she was there, please be assured that we absolutely have no complaints about anything she did or said. Also we got to meet Daniel for a short time and he was most helpful. Thank you for a wonderful, all around experience that we'll remember for a long, long time. I received my Ultimate Alps shirt in the mail yesterday and wanted to say a sincere THANK YOU, not only for the shirt but for Lena's help leading up to the trip. I had a wonderful time on the tour and am aware that Lena's behind-the-scenes efforts factored into us having such a stress free experience! My heartfelt thanks for all attention to detail - big and small - and the excellent organization. It’s greatly appreciated as we truly couldn’t have done it without her!

This was a trip of a lifetime for me. I share it with 5 friends and met new friends along the way. The scenery and the roads were unbelievable to me (from relatively flat Australia). The experience of the central Alps is something I will never forget. I will remember it fondly and enjoy sharing the pictures and videos to anyone of my family and friends who will watch.

The most important aspect of travelling is the journey. And Edelweiss Bike Travel made sure our participation in the Ultimate Alps Tour is a memorable one. The tour was not just wonderful because of the quality bikes, we stayed in great hotels, could experience challenging routes and travel with people who have the same attitude than we do. And the tour guides were great too. We had an outstanding trip experience and have collected so many postcard-like pictures which are saved on our cameras and in our mindes.
