Almost everywhere there are mountains, and where there are no mountains, there are at least hills. Rivers and lakes are very clean, there are meadows and forests and many small towns and villages, all nicely kept. The Austrians simply like it when everything is in good shape. Even the roads, most of which are curvy, many even very curvy.
The tour starts in the far west of the country, in the province of Vorarlberg. Bregenz is located on Lake Constance, a small part of which belongs to Austria, and is famous for its art and music festivals. From here we head straight into the mountains to let the fun begin. There are a few small and medium-sized passes on our agenda, plus a big one which is a highlight on the first day. Whereby the pass itself is actually quite unknown, everybody simply calls it the Silvretta and means the (toll) road up to the reservoir and down again. From the said reservoir, the view of the mostly snow-covered alpine peaks gives a foretaste of what we can expect in the next days.
