CUA1702 - The Ultimate Alps Tour

Saturday, July 22, 2017 | Peter Rollmann / Marc Adamiak | Europe

Matterhorn (from Zermatt, CH)

Day 1: Guided city tour Innsbruck

What went wrong there? - Having fun while changing roles on tour.
Both of us back on the right side of the camera. Amazing view over Innsbruck.

Day 1: Edelweiss Riding School

To refresh some needed skills, Dave decided to take a training for one day, prior to the tour.
First, we had some theory....
...followed by prctical exercises.
It looks easy...
...but it is surprising, how known things get covered by daily habits.
Riding tight circles, emergency breaking, avoiding obstacles, riding switchbacks etc.
All known, but good to be "updated"
In the afternoon, we had a little tour in the Mieming area.
Dave enojed the typical "Strudel" during a coffee break.

Day 2: Mieming to Pontresina

First highlight of the day was the spectacular view to the valley of the Inn river - from the platform in the background.
Some history about that spot, but then the group is looking forward to continue the riding!
At Reschen, we saw the church tower of a village, that was flooded, due to building a dam for a hydro electric installation.
After another coffee break, we rode another pass...
...THE pass: Stelvio!!!
Almost no traffic today and just partly cloudy - what a lucky day!
Marina, Susan, Dave and Ryan: you made it!
Everybody deserved a delicious saussage sandwich at Bruno's
After "up the pass"...
...comes "down the pass"...
...towards Bormio...
...also in a breathtaking scenery!
Close to Pontresina, we crossed the last pass of the day: Bernina.

Everybody had a "360 degree" smile in their face!

What a day...!

Day 3: Pontresina to Weggis

Leaving Pontresina:
Peter, one of our tour guides
Marina
Ryan
Susan and Dave
Beautiful view from our hotel at the Vierwaldstättersee

Day 4: Weggis to Zermatt

We started with a ferry from Gersau to Beckenried
Interesting objects and new friends
Susan, Marina, Ryan and Dave are looking forward to an interesting riding day in the swiss alps
One of our passes on the way
For lunch, we had the famous Edelweiss picnic at a creek in the Apls
Everybody enjoyed food, sun, nature and the silence
Continuing via Andermatt
Just little snow left in mid of july
Look, where we are and where we will ride...
The Rhone glacier - dry and mostly melted away
Typical wooden houses and barns, down in the Rhone valley
In Zermatt are only electric vehicles allowed
Wooden houses in Zermatt - built on stone (and see the stone "mushrooms", to keep away mice and rats)
The famous Matterhorn

Day 5: Zermatt to Lugano

After riding plenty of curves on Passo Simplon and through Valle Vigezzo / Centovalli , while making three border crossings, we had deserved a delicious Italian lunch at Lago Magiore.
Meanwhile we enjoyed either this...
... or that view.
To be back in first row, while crossing Lago Magiore to get some more curvy fun under our wheels.
Dinner in Hotel Continental, Lugano

Day 6: Lugano to Madonna di Campiglio

From Lugano, we started again with a short ferry ride and sunshine.
After we left Switzerland, Italy awaited us for the next days.
Following winding rural roads, we deserved a quick 2nd coffee...
...sheep herd and beautiful view included
We could have stopped several times (again!), to take pictures. This time, we could not resist.
For lunch, we had delicious ravioli...
...typical for that region and made fresh - just before we arrived.
Mountains, gorges, rivers and... uhhh... nature was spoiling us another time.
All roads were in a good shape. OK, almost all
Approaching Madonna di Campiglio...
...where we spend one night in a hotel with first class view.

Day 8: Bozen rest day tour in the Dolomites

All started with a puntured tire
But it was fixed quickly by our tour guide Marc
Enjoying another great day, we stopped at the magic Lago di Crezza
One of many passes, we rode in the Dolomites
Quick stop at the Marmolada - the highest peak in the Dolomites (3343m).
This day, the group was a BIT bigger - Peter, our 2nd tour guide came with us.
Lunch at Passo di Falzarego
The Dolomites at their best
Coffee stop at the Würzjoch
Ryan - Getting the right angle for "THE" picture
A last view on the Dolomites at the end of an awesome riding day.
Who deserved a beer at the "Batzen" brewery in Bozen?!:

ALL Y'ALL!

Day 9: Bozen to Mieming

Waving a good bye to Bozen and looking forward to the last riding day on this tour
Arrival at the garage of the Edelweiss headquarter in Mieming

Day 10: Departure

As last evening, Marina was so kind, to allow us being part of some of her great art after breakfast again...
Thank you very much!
Goodbye Marina, Susan, Dave, Peter, Ryan and Marc
Looking forward, to see you on another Edelweiss tour again!
