The Großglockner High Alpine Road takes us to the very heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park, the largest national park in the European Alps. It was built during an economic crisis in only five years (1930-1935) by more than 3,000 workers. It is said to be a masterpiece of road construction. Crossing zones of climate and vegetation equivalent to those lying between Austria and the Arctic Circle, we find an incredible variety of plants and animals. At the peak of this toll road, we become part of the 1.2 million visitors per year. You will be impressed by the scenery of peaks, glaciers, and waterfalls. The Edelweiss-Spitze offers the best vistas, a spectacular panoramic view of more than thirty peaks of almost 3,000 m (10,000 ft). Pictures and exhibitions will show you how the glacier retreated during the last century.

Sibiu is awash in aristocratic elegance. Noble Saxon history emanates from every art nouveau facade and gold-embossed church. Transfăgărășan may be difficult to pronounce but loads of fun to ride. We’re talking about Romania’s most famous and most spectacular road, a mountain pass across the main range of the Carpathians, connecting Transylvania to the Walachia. It was built between 1970 and 1974 mainly for strategic and military reasons, across 860 bridges and viaducts. 6,000 tons of dynamite were used and – officially – 40 lives lost. The 151 km (94 miles) long road culminates at Bâlea-Pass, 2042 m (6,700 ft) above sea level.
The road was made famous in 2010 when TopGear took three supercars and a helicopter and produced a stunning video there. Jeremy Clarkson & Co awarded it the title “Best driving road in the World”. Let’s go and check if it’s great for bikes, too!

The Mogao Caves contain the world´s biggest collection of Buddhist art. During the peak of the area’s history, there were 18 monasteries with 1,400 monks. The guided tour through the caves takes about 2 hours and includes 10 caves in which you will see many different kinds of manuscripts and Buddhist fragments. There are 492 caves in total. Different caves open for touring at different times.

The Terracotta Army is a collection of about 8,000 warriors, 130 chariots with 520 horses and 150 cavalry horses. The army was built to protect the first emperor, Qin Shi Huang, in his afterlife. Over 700,000 workers were involved in building the army. A group of farmers found fragments of the army while digging a well northeast of the city on the 29th of March 1974.
Today we can visit the warriors in four of the pits which are overbuildt meanwhile and open to public.

Lijiang is Yunnan's pride and joy. UNESCO World Heritage Site, a city of music, flowers, water channels, and 300 bridges - with unique architecture. In addition, clear air, a mild climate, lush vegetation, and the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (5,596m) at your feet.
Lijiang means "city by a beautiful river", a very fitting description: girls are selling small, lotus-shaped polystyrene boats with candles on the streets. Light the candle, make a wish, and send the boat on one of the many canals of the city. When you walk through the narrow cobblestone streets late in the evening, the canals of Lijiang shine in a myriad of glowing boats.
Of course, in a city like Lijiang, you are not alone. Eleven million tourists come here every year, and the numbers are rising rapidly. For them, the old town is being extended more and more, because in China, buildings do not have to be really old to be old. What really counts is the spirit.

The Tiger Leaping Gorge is 16 kilometers long and the elevation difference between the Yangtze River and the snow-covered peaks of the mountains of Haba Shan is about 3,900 meters. It is possible to ride down the gorge by motorcycle and stop at Tina’s Guesthouse.
From the guesthouse, there is a 40-minute walking trail down to the Tiger Leaping Stone.
