World Tour // Africa: Cape Town - Dar es Salaam 1CD

Botswana   |  Malawi   |  Namibia   |  South Africa   |  Tanzania   |  Zambia

Africa – the birthplace of mankind! We will spend our first few days in Cape Town. Table Mountain, the Waterfront, its Townships and vineyards cast a spell on us that is hard to break.

But soon it is time to head out, as we leave from the southernmost point of this section, the Cape of Good Hope. The Mediterranean climate of the Cape soon gives way to the arid scenery of the hinterland as two days riding take us into Namibia. The gigantic Fish River Canyon brings back memories of the Grand Canyon, and the indescribable desert landscapes of the Namib Naukluft Park will take our breath away as we make our way to the former German town of Swakopmund.

We wave goodbye to the Atlantic coast and start our crossing of the African continent. Ahead lay the giant salt pans of the Kalahari, a name full mystery and adventure! This arid bush savannah covers most of Botswana and will be our constant companion all the way to the Okavango delta and the Victoria Falls.

The pleasure of barrelling down dusty tracks is interspersed with plenty of chances to play in the water. We head for Malawi via Lusaka (the capital city of Zambia) and Chipata. Senga Bay awaits with a chance to wash off the desert dust with some R&R on its beautiful beaches. But we still have a long way to go before we hit the Indian Ocean!

But first: Safari! A chance to see the “Big Five” in their natural habitat. We leave Malawi heading north and ride a loop through Tanzania. Our motorcycles will take us to Ngorongoro Crater and the famous Kilimanjaro National Park to name a few of the fantastic parks and reserves. It‘s not far anymore until we reach the Indian Ocean but before we put our feet in the white sand we once more explore the mountains of Lushoto and navigate our bikes through the Usambara Mountains and then finish our trip after 38 fantastic expedition days.

Special Challenges

  • Africa is a wild continent and sparsely settled. Some of our riding days are very long.
  • Very high temperatures are to be expected.
  • Don’t trust the roads, even when on tarmac. Potholes, gravel, animals and people can appear without notice.
  • Isolated and challenging gravel tracks. Dirt, dust and sandy sections are all part of everyday riding in Africa.
  • This is Africa! There are wild animals out here!
