4AN1801 Extremely Southern Spain

Monday, April 23, 2018 | Angela | Europe

Hey there folks at the Edelweiss garage: I am on my way back to Austria now and I wonder if they will be still there once I've arrived... These are the riders who refused to leave
So should you find them still sitting there, please send them on the next tour right away

And to all the riders of the Southern Spain Extreme Tour:

We had extremely nice rides together, we enjoyed each and every day to the extreme, and you guys were extremely fun to hang out with.

Take care and safe rides until we meet again.

Your tour guide Angela

Calahorra to Sierra de Alhamilla

The castle of Calahorra with the Sierra Nevada in the background as our impressive morning view
The riding in the Spanish sierras is dominated by vast, mostly lonesome landscape
The Tetica pass is an absolute riding highlight
On top of the Calar Alto you'll find the Spanish-German astronomy center
Surprisingly, the most simple place on the tour has served us with the best food on tour
Basil surprised us all with a speech at the farewell dinner

Alhama de Granada to Calahorra

From Arroyo Frio to Marmolejo

Who would have thought? Another beautiful day in paradise The sun was so inviting that we grabbed a few sandwiches at a café and enjoyed a sort of picnic lunch amidst the beautiful nature.
Like many places all over the country, the picnic spot shows how important religion is for the Spanish people.
James and nature - two, which go together very well
The natural park we were riding through today completely had us. It was stunningly beautiful

Rest day ride in the area of Arroyo Frio

The morning of our second riding day greeted us with sunshine and so we took off to explore the Sierra de Cazorla a bit closer.

Three... two... one...go!!
No doubt we do our morning exercises
To get a nice picture...
...you do almost anything
No matter which of the pueblos blancos - they all are amazing
Basil very much enjoys riding the 1000 XR
Uwe, James and David - Father, uncle, and son - the awesome threesome on the tour. With Mark hiding behind.
Kirk is the fortunate one who gets to try out all the riding skills he has been training on during the riding akademy the week before our tour. The nicer weather this week definitely supports the fun factor
The riders at one of the stunning look-outs in the natural park
Pueblos blancos you find plenty in Andalusia, but this one is pretty impressive with its castle. The road leading up to it is not to bad either
The mountain goats up there seem to be the castle's guardians
The way back to the hotel leads past one of the many water reservoirs you can find especially down here in Andalusia.
A beer at the end of a beautiful riding day that is absolutely deserved.

From the Sierra Alhamilla to Arroyo Frio

Today we started another run of our Southern Spain Extreme Tour here in the east of Andalusia. This tour was added to the brochure in 2017 and has attracted a nicely sized group of 7 riders this time. They have arrived from the US, from the UK and from Germany.

This morning all riders were packing their stuff they would need during the next 6 days of riding on their bikes and we started out from our base hotel in the Sierra de Alhamilla near Almeria.

Our base hotel, the 'Balneario Sierra Alhamilla, clearly shows the influence of the Moorish style. This is the beautiful courtyard with its orange trees. The lovely owners prepare the 'baños arabes' for you.
A delicious welcome dinner in the arabic style dining room
Day one and we already lost track of the number of turns
Most of the day we were manouvering our bikes on empty roads through olive orchards and large fields of almond trees
James is amazed by the colorful landscape, yes, but even more so by the great rides this morning
Jens on his BMW 1200 GS
The Sierra de Cazorla is already in sight.
Castril is one of those spectacular small white villages here in Spain which seem to be glued to the rock
Mark at our coffee stop in Castril
We had a blast riding the fantastic curves over the Puerto deTiscar - what a nicely flowing ride!!!
Happy Jens
The town of Cazorla only serves as a point of reference for us. Our hotel is located somewhere behind these mountains in the middle of nowhere. A lovely small country house in the remote countryside.
