Adriatic Rollercoaster: islands hopping

Donnerstag, 9. Juni 2011 | Manuel Marabese | Europa

After a rest day in Opatija where we had the chance to discover the Istrian peninsula we head towards Krk and Rab: islands hopping today!

The first connection is fairly easy: the long bridge Krčki Most (once upon a time called Tito Most) is bringing us in few minutes on the island of Krk, the most extended of the Croatian archipelago. Some local friends told us that here there are three times more biological species than in entire England. We look at the landscape and we believe them.

After a coffee break we embark on our first ferry from Valbinska to Lopar - on the next island: Rab.

The journey takes about an hour and a half and while we admire the various islands we have time for the first group shot of the tour:

After docking in Lopar we need just fifteen minutes to reach Rab town - one of the most fascinating of the entire country - for our lunch break on a terrasse with a nice harbour view.

A dreamy island shot:

It is almost time to leave the breathtaking coast and island realm in order to cross the mountains and reach the lakes of Plitvice - another marvellous place, stay tuned for more shots - but we can enjoy the last coastal ride blessed by good weather and salty breeze...

It sure seems like you are having lots of fun here. Island hopping in Croatia is very popular, unfortunately, islands are not very well connected to each other, for trips to other island in most cases you have to get back on the mainland.
