Colorful Morocco 5MO

Morocco   |  Spain

Amazing scenery and lots of oriental flair: come and see Morocco, the motorcycling country.

Oriental bazaars, massive mountains, camels, souks, endless desert, exotic spices, outstanding roads – this is Morocco! The tour starts in Andalusia, but the ferry ride to Africa is already scheduled for the first riding day.
Right away we start with some major highlights: the Rif Mountains with their motorcycle roads and the ancient city of Fes, the Atlas Mountains and, eventually, the Sahara. Your old dream of riding a camel across sand dunes can come true here, the oasis of Erfoud makes it possible!

After the desert we cross the Atlas again. This is the region of the Kasbahs - old fortresses or castles, usually located within the historic parts of the towns. Marrakech is our next highlight. Morocco’s fourth-largest city has something to offer for everyone. As we spend a rest day here, you will have enough time to explore the town or go for a little ride with your tour guide!

From Marrakech, the route leads us north again and soon we cross the border back to Europe. Two more riding days to and around Ronda, a beautiful old city among numerous twisty mountain roads, then our tour ends in Malaga.

What an amazing trip!

What an amazing trip! Surprisingly diverse landscape, friendly people and interesting roads – all on a Harley! By the way, Edelweiss was skeptical on how well the Harleys would perform in Morocco and our group, the first Harley tour in Morocco, proved it can be done with the greatest of skill and endurance!

We have done a lot of travel and Morocco was one of the most unique places thus far. We experienced great mountain passes, dirt and mud roads, and camels and ATVs on the sands of the Sahara. Our guides took us off-the-beaten path (although most paths are!) to experience Moroccan food at its best, with fresh meats killed and cooked on the grill street side. Marrakesh provided us with great sights and smells, including king cobras “dancing at our feet”. The best of all is that we met a great group of Harley riders that we have kept in touch with and have traveled with again.

Edelweiss did yet another amazing job arranging all of the details and their tour guides are the best – thanks Andreas and Ted!

Marocco on Harley

When we parked the bikes at a small square, I looked around at this mountain town where we were going to stay for our first night in Morocco. Hundreds of stone houses stacking up, with windows and doors painted in blue. Already, seems like there is a Moroccan smell in the air. Then we walked up along the winding cobblestone alley, with vendors selling rugs, tin pot, souvenir, suddenly, we arrived at a little cozy hotel front door, all Moroccan deco hotel, Wow… I said to myself, “It’s all worthy”….
It happened that I said the same the 2nd day, the 3rd day and every days of the rest of the trip. I signed up the trip with some hesitation as 14 riding days seems too long for an 64 old rider, and the cost is a little to the higher side. Who knows it became a once in a life time riding experience, not only its too long and every penny worth for this amazing trip, absolutely beyond my imagination, and expectation, that we experienced different landscapes like we were riding from Swiss forest to Tuscany and then riding camel at the edge of Sahara desert, including highway, country road, mountain road, dirt road, from 8000 ft altitude to sea level, never a dull moment.
